Does anyone know the lyrics and/or history of this song? I have some words and melody from Nic Jones' recording, but i'd love to know more about the song. If anyone has any info, i'd be very grateful for an email at the above domain, thanks, Keith Osborne.

Can't say I know much about the song, but there are other versions; see Journal of the (English) Folk Song Society 1907 pp130-131 for a version collected by H.E.D. Hammond in Dorset and one collected by Cecil Sharp in Somerset.

As Noreen says, the very little that can be said about this song has already been said here; the text at the site Kezst mentioned was lifted -with acknowledgement- from here.  We do have some rather useful search facilities here, which we try (often without much success) to encourage people to use before starting new threads about the same old subjects.  NEW information, of course, is always welcome.

Try a search on Flandyke shore in Lyrics and Knowledge - there have been threads on this before, and Malcolm Douglas has certainly contributed references.
