Lyr Add: Come Brothers, Drive Dull Care Away

12 Dec 05 - 10:25 PM (#1626101)
Subject: Lyr Add: Come Brothers, Drive Dull Care Away
From: Q (Frank Staplin)

Lyr. Add. COME BROTHERS, DRIVE DULL CARE AWAY
Air: Few Days

Come, brothers, drive dull care away,
Hurrah! Hurrah!
And merrily sing till dawn of day,
Like jolly sophomores.

Chorus
Shout for '58, boys'
Hurrah! Hurrah!
Shout for '58, boys,
Hip-Hip-Hurrah!
Out let the chorus sing,
Hurrah! Hurrah!
Join all the praise to sing
Of jolly '58.

How many pleasant memories,
Hurrah! Hurrah!
In after years will frequent rise,
When we have gone away.

Chorus

How when there comes a gloomy night,
Hurrah! Hurrah!
We'll call to mind our old delight,
In this our College home.

And oft we'll tell our pretty wives,
Hurrah! Hurrah!
How we enjoyed our College lives
In the "old Granite State."

Then, classmates, sing right merrily,
Hurrah! Hurrah!
Oh, what a jolly crowd are we,
On this our festal night.

Songs of Dartmouth, in C. Wistar Stevens, 1860, "College Song Book, a Collection of Americal College Songs," p. 72. Russell & Tolman, Boston.

Not a good song, but posted because the title combines two old song titles; 'Come brothers' and 'Drive dull care away,' as well as the tune "Few Days," used in several songs after its original printing in 1854:
"Then Hurrah for Home," a Gold Rush song by J. A. Stone in Put's Golden Songster, 1858- thread 85867: Hurrah for Home
See thread 85841, "Few Days- I Can't Stay" for others: Few Days
