Pundits here rightfully say that total victory is fleeting and hollow.
I say if one considers the scource, it means defeating all your enemies.

Needs Dubya sitting on the back of the tank waving with his arm around Charlton Heston dressed up as Gawd.

Cluin - good idea and probably funnier than what I have to offer, but George has never near the front except for his Thanksgiving photo op in the Green Zone for 90 minutes.

I was thing of one radio antenna on the tank getting messages from the Senate to go get Bush and Cheney in their Naval Obseratory bunker....and the other antenna getting orders from Rumsfeld to shell the Senate wing of the Capitol. ?

"it means defeating all your enemies."

Well if you truly believe 'if you are not with us, you are against us', that doesn't leave too many...

People like that will never run out of enemies. Trust me. did Hitler run out of enemies? Did Stalin? Did Saddam? Did Napoleon? Did Rome?

Bush and Cheney certainly won't.

They who look for enemies find them. I knew kids like that. They were always fighting with someone. They liked the adrenaline, and it gave them something to focus on...a blank screen on which to project their own anger and fear. Such types are drawn to one another like magnets, matter of fact.

To defeat "all your enemies", under such circumstances, never happens except on a very temporary basis. There will always be another blank face made ready soon to project your own inner demons upon.

In a society where the assasinations of JFK, RFK and MLK are always chalked up to a lone gunman by goverment commissions no matter how absurd, I do not believe history will ever allow anything but a revisionist version to exist for our latest Pearl Harbor event.
I do not believe Rumsfeld and Cheney types made 9-11 happen but in consideration of the plethora of stand down orders given, experts ignored and evidence of demolition charges, I am leaning to the let it happen scenario which some may argue is the same as "they" made it happen.
With no legal authority to justify such actions there is only the greater good or the ends justifying the means argument to be made.

Once one drives a tank over the Constitution we should not expect they will obey it in the future.

I like the 'God will sort them out' on the tank
that comes from the siege of Bezier during the Cathar heresy.

Total victory will have been achieved when Bobert and Amos have everyone in the US convinced that GWB is the devil and Mexicans start swimming south to exit this hellish country.

A huge part of Bush's credibility problem is his inability to state explicitly what victory is in this case. It's wearing thin for the public.

Serves the American people right for reelecting him. I know he stole it again but it should never have been close enough for that to happen. It should have been a slam dunk "get the hell outta here and never come back." Admittedly, I am very bitter about that and am having a difficult time forgiving those that cast their ballots for him. When it's a no-brainer, count on your fellow Americans to do the wrong thing. We have such a knack for it.

Total Victory as a battle cry is better than most.
Total Victory as a political solution is insane.

Totaled Victories in the literal sense would amount to two purple finger Iraq elections.

There are as many new versions of names for the "ENEMY" as there are various battle cries in this latest Iraq war started by yet another Bush family member.

The Republican Guard, rag heads, terrorists, insurgents, radical Muslim militants, thugs, and now the Enemies of Iraq People or EIP's.

The war/operation has had many names as well.
Persian Gulf War, Desert Storm, The mother of all wars, Shock and Awe, Desert Storm II, The race to Baghdad, Operation "fill in the blank" and now Total Victory over Terrorism or TVOT.

There will be no TVOT until all the EIP's are gone.

sooner or later in an anticolonial war, the colonial power goes home.
The locals dont have to, they are home.

when only 2% of the locals see the US as liberators, and 47% view
attacks on US forces in Iraq as legitimate, one doesnt have to think who the victors are.

And in a free & democratic society they can elect whatever govt they want.

over the past 20 years many countries over the world have become democratic, with no help from the US, in fact, in spite of the US (and its recent Wilsonian ideal of exporting democracy).
