Tenor Banjo for Christmas?

A mate of mine in Harlow, Derek Brown, has a tenor banjo he wants to sell, if possible before Christmas, and he asked me to put up a note about it on the Mudcat. (He doesn't have Internet access himself.) It's an Ozark, and he's had it for four years and it's in decent nick. He's wanting around £120 for it, and is happy to deliver it anywhere in the South-East of England.

No picture of the banjo, but here's a picture with Derek on the left, playing a mandola. (Along with me and harlowpoet). So you can ask yourself "Would I buy a used banjo from this man?" and answer "Yes, if I wanted a tenor banjo."

Send me a PM if you are interested, and I'll put you in touch.

How to sign in to flickr? Click on this and sign up for a free membership, which I think is well worth doing. (But even without being a flickr member, just clicking on that link I gave in the opening thread should show the picture. Which isn't really all that complicated, eric...)

Derek's banjo is still available.

Well it doesn't! It asks for an account. However, I managed to sign in to flickr with my yahoo account and a picture came up... with no banjo.. but then you said there was none, didn't you? What was the pint of me looking, I ask myself?

What's the point? Well, it opens up flickr for you, which has an amazing collection of pictures, including a lot related to folk music.

I'm puzzled about that link not working, though. Does this one work any better?

The banjo is still up for grabs.

Hmmm, tenor banjo? Well, I already have a banjo, so I'll take the ten, thanks.

Which Ozark TB is it? If it's the "Professional" model with "Celtic" inlays and gold hardware that retails at around £625, I'm a definite buyer at £120! And I'm in Harlow!

However, if it's a 2104T or T/S (shortscale), £120 is a bit optimistic as that model retails new at £145-160. If it's a basic open-back 2102T, well, that retails for £105-115 new, so £70-80 would be nearer the mark.

Far Eastern built instruments, even if they are quite well made, as they often are, are not holding their price very well at present, as a look at eBay will confirm. New Chinese-made Tenor Banjos, probably from the same factory as the Ozarks, are on offer there from £55!
