Merry Christmas, indeed, to all!

...and to all a good night!

I certainly extend best wishes to all, including those who may not be Christians and/or who celebrate the midwinter holiday under different names, but I do not feel constrained to say "Happy Holidays" as a way to avoid any mention of Christmas.

Christmas is, quite unavoidably, a feature of our culture and has as much purely secular import as it does religious, including the many Yuletide traditions that predate the arrival of Christianity in Northern Europe.

Those who lack interest in the religious dimension of Christmas are free to ignore it, or to regard it in a patronizing fashion, or whatever they wish.

It seems very silly to me that some folks find it necessary to pretend that Christmas doesn't exist.

So that's why I do NOT say "Happy Holidays" in preference to "Merry Christmas." Still in all, I'm perfectly willing to wish everyone a "Cool Yule"!

Have a blessed Christmas. Why settle for just Merry?

I look forward to seeing you again in 2009, Roy. We're an hour and a half from New Yawk City by train. It would be lovely to see you again. Maybe we can sing a duet on Silver Queen. (We visited a couple who salvaged the wheel and propeller from the Silver Queen last summer, by the way.)

As I say,

Have a Merry,

Jerry

A very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all.

Off on my travels and will not see home again until 2009.

Looking forward to a couple of festivals over the Christmas/New Year period and in 2009 travelling to the Far East, Canada and my usual festival pilgrimages in Scotland and in Europe.

Best wishes to all, but especially to Malcolm Douglas in particular, take your time and take it easy, hope to hear that you are fully recovered by the time I get back.
