27 Dec 05 - 03:11 PM (#1635535) Subject: BS: You can do it, Raptor! From: Little Hawk Here's the thing, man. You CAN write a post that contains 150 or more words. I know you can. I have faith in you. And DON'T tell me you don't have enough time for it. I happen to know that you spend time watching birds (cough, snort!, gasp!)...and that means you have time to burn, right? Now, here's how it works. Go and study one of the political threads. Look at the posts by people like Teribus, Amos, Ron Davies, Arne what's-his-name, etc...miles and miles and miles of fervent prose. Those guys are heavy hitters, man. Well, I think you have it in you to be a heavy hitter too. Just pick a subject that interests you so much that you can't shut up about it, pour yourself a stiff drink, and start friggin' TYPING...and DON'T let up until you have said every frikkin' LAST word on the subject that you have to SAY! "Know'm sayin'??? Brinng! Know'm sayin'????" Get to it. I believe in you, man. Go for 500 words at least. Your pal, Little Hawk |

27 Dec 05 - 03:28 PM (#1635545) Subject: RE: BS: You can do it, Raptor! From: Little Hawk Well, no. Not a big Hemingway fan. But he was a pretty good writer in his own way. I like the one about the "Snows of Kilimanjaro". Weird psychology, though. A real "man's man" was Hemingway. An amusing thought is this: Hemingway and D.H.Lawrence cast away on a tiny desert island and forced to put up with each other on a daily basis for a few years. |

Long and fervent. Impassioned. He kept on talking. He cared. He wrote on and on. I closed the window. It was a slow day. On the Mudcat. A |

(Parody by James Thurber in the New Yorker in 1927.) Heard it on public radio earlier this month and just found it in print at the New Yorker's website. Linn |

27 Dec 05 - 10:05 PM (#1635772) Subject: RE: BS: You can do it, Raptor! From: GUEST,Kent Ovation He came home. To an empty house. The lights were on. That was a waste of power. But he didn't care. What did it matter anymore? Outside the power lines were buzzing. A train rumbled by. He eyed the clock on the wall. 3:45. He eyed the shotgun. A dull gleam on the cold steel. They found him the next day. A sardine can was wedged in his jaws. It was a Norwegian sardine can. Hell of a way to die on the last day of January 1945. |

From: Charmion Yes, one stopped sardining in Norway during the war if one did not wish to become bait oneself -- or arrested by the Gestapo, which could come down to the same thing.
