Coincidentally, one of the books I got for Christmas was a history of technology, that includes a picture of an ancient clay tablet showing Mesopotamians drinking beer- through straws. So maybe Stone was a bit lucky not to be challenged on prior art.

The Mesopotamians were all sitting round one big beer-pot, sharing it.
