14 bums inc organisers at Baldock for Life and Times who were in good humour , voice and musicianship mode.

They sang the song denty made famous. does he know any more yet?

only the ref and moses as support, dont count myself as I didnt expect to play , but I did.

he has a good line up this term with Jez Lowe, George Papavgeris and Vin Garbutt as my pick of the bunch.

could be very cosy for Vin as its got limited space, maybe 40 !!

Thanx

Burns night eh? Barton folk club men in kilts. Och Aye!

An Englishman, an Irishman and a Scotsman were standing looking at a prize cow in a field.
The Englishman says "Look at that fine English cow."
The Irishman disagreed, saying "No, it's an Irish cow."
The Scotsman thought for a moment and then clinched the argument. "No, it's a Scottish cow - it's got bagpipes underneath!"

Hello all. See I go away for one week and all The Unicorn world is turned upside down, just like the diggers, cos Bedford have not got their's either nor Bedroom music. Ring Alan Creamer and tell him. Hello Breezie yes I have many more songs like the brick song lined up, and even the odd tune (very odd when I play them)

Great stuff Martin - sounds like Baldock will be a treat this Wednesday

Okay Cathy - I surrender

Vin Garbut is on, on the 22nd March at the Orange Tree, Baldock - space is limited to approx. 40, so book now to avoid disappointment

Where's Guru these days - no quips for 2006 and Piers - how are you? - is it still grim up north?

Will catch up with guru at the Dave Bryant wake next Saturday.

I knew dave back in the late 60s when he took South London by storm

He came to Harpenden in 1999 and sang at the Silver Cup , then I had him do a spotlight 2 years ago. A true character, very knowledgeable and lived life to the full.

His Avril Betts stunt will long be remembered here on the cat

His version of Fiddlers Green I will always recall, cos it took an age to sing.

A big voice , Gilbert and Sullivan , stuff like that, no P A required when he was around.

So as we can differentiate between Geordies and those from Middlesbru , i e Weirsiders

Geordies are those who can stand on the banks of the river Tyne - Newcassle - and spit into the Thames, or in Ben Campbell's case, piss into it !!

Ben is on at Herga tonight, be there by 7.30 it ends at 10.30 sharp and he does a song he wrote on the women who followed the men during the Napoleonic wars

Ben is as funny as Vin Garbutt and is on a very rare visit , I am going to hear him again, he is original , great guitar, voice and songs, well worth coming to herga for and to learn about the club too if you can

Have a good week

its me and whoever next Sunday at the Comfort

FRIDAY 27th JANUARY – LAUGHING GRAVY

North Hertfordshire's favourite Dance Band LAUGHING GRAVY return after their Christmas break, re-vitalised and refreshed, to offer the very best of English acoustic dance music to the renowned Unicorn Ceilidhs.    Based on years of experience, the band's style is firmly rooted in the English tradition, but draws its influences from far and wide. French, Scottish, Welsh and American roots are explored in an eclectic repertoire that gives energy to the dancers, and leads them into the figures and forms of the dances.

Caller for the evening is the delightful and experienced SHEENA MASSON.
From an early age Sheena has built an enviable reputation as both a versatile dance musician and ceilidh caller. She works extensively with, among others, bands Peeping Tom and Stömp. She is also a member of the new eclectic dance band Stocai, and is a popular and versatile caller at festivals and clubs throughout the country.

Our interval entertainment this month comes from the STONY STEPPERS – they will be demonstrating the very English tradition of Clog Step Dancing, whilst you relax, drink a pint or two, and recover your breath!
Doors open at 7.30   Dancing from 8.00 till late. Real Ale Bar.
Tickets £7.50 (U14s £4)

They look forward to seeing you all!

Hey Ross what with The Hertfordshire Day of Song being called off this year, why don't we have a 12 hr do at The Bull on that day instead, and get it put in The Unicorn?????? Cu at The Blue Anchor I hope. I should be back in time for that.

My knees vibrate in cold weather

Are my underpants too tight?

What's an OT?

Hi Ross the date that was for The Hertfordshire Day of Song was March 4th. so it would be too late for The Unicorn, but via word of mouth ie (Breezie) we should get a few people there, or wait until April. Bye I am off to Devizes The home of 6XXXXXX, then tomorrow Port Issac until Tuesday, so should be at The Blue Anchor Tuesday, The Bull on Wednesday and then staying at The Lower Red Lion, The Rose and Crown on Thursday. Cool. Then as if that was not enough, Robinhoods Bay on Friday and Saturday back on Sunday. BYE BYE.

Jez was magic by all accounts. A cozy forum with lots of different playing techniques to watch. Good songs and time to chat to folk. He even remembered meeting my friend's cousin in a gig in Canada and talking to him in a similar setting! That's amazing considering the hundreds of people he meets on tours. It was genuine too as he accurately described him and his work.Impressed.
