Clinton...Yup. A friendly retailer gave me a bunch because they didn't sell. Very soft tone, floppy feel even with the thick ones, and they grab the strings too much for my liking. I've passed them around to students and nobody has liked them, so they sit in my pick box waiting for an opportunity. A long long way from my usual Ultex or Wegans. My guess is they'll be one of those rare particular sounding picks that get used once or twice per owner. My original feeling was they'd work on ukulele, but I didn't even like them for that.

Peace, Mooh.

I've never seen a rubber pick. The last three picks I've had are kind of neat, though. All heavy and mellow, as I like them. The first one was a tortoise shell one. I paid $45 for it and lost it somewhere between Juneau, San Diego, Chicago and Toronto and Juneau. Kind of glad, actually, because of the guilt I felt. Then I bought a bison horn one for $6.00. I like it fine. At Christmas, however, a musician friend gave me a mammoth tusk fossil ivory one and that's the one I'm using now. It's pretty odorous; some people have said that the smell reminds them of a cattle barn. It doesn't to me- somehow I just feel this temendous connection to the long ago past.

A pal o' mine got some sorta oversized pick shaped rubber erasers to use for letting kids strum autoharps. It was quite a mess. Eraser noodle all over and inside the autoharps. Scraping the erasers across all those 36 strings wore the eraser down but, they were sure easy for the kids to hold on to.

When i pick a pick i go for "tread" (mud and snows, not studded, though)
as much as the weight. flexibility, etc. Get a grip! I esp. like Dunlops
with the rough bumps to grasp on to...i think that is a brand of a tire, too.

Oh Baw-haw-haw-haw! A -CONDOM- joke, cause the post title has the word 'rubber' in it... my oh my, how original, insightful and hilarious...

With comedy like that MG, you should stick to music...

Or maybe your 'music' IS the reason you have to resort to failed comedic attempts....

Keep swinging for the fences, reaching for those stars... anything to distract you from the sewer pipe that you post from

I was in the music store today, and after seeing this thread, I just had to invest the 34 cents it cost to take one home and try it.

My opinion: They are Just Plain Horrible. I have no idea whatsoever how anyone could appreciate using these, unless perhaps, you wanted to make brand new high quality strings sound like they are old, cheap and dirty.

So I might like them after all, cause I HATE the sound of brand new strings.

Clinton...They don't sound too bad on the autoharp, though I'd prefer to have my fingers free, so maybe crazy glueing one to a thumb pick would work. They also get a real finger-like sound on electric bass, though I don't know what would be wrong with actually using one's fingers. Anyway, sorry for the aside.

If you really want 'em, try Jensen Music in Owen Sound, that's who gave them to me.

Peace, Mooh.

OK, Clinton seeing that you have zero sense of humor. Playing with a rubber pick sounds horrendous. I have tried it and I know of zero excellent musicians who use one. Obviously you use one because you are embarrassed by your plauing and really don't want to be heard because of all the bad notes you hit.

And I don't particularly like the sound of brand new strings either until they have been played a while. But unlike yourself, I will spend the money to replace them instead of using that as an excuse not to.

Hell of a drive for a pick I might not like... Heh

Once Again MG, you show just how out to sea you really are...   Blow it out your back-passage, provided you can get your head out first....
