God do I hate this song but there is an alternative version - anyone know it?

There are 3 18th century songs of that title.

Jane Elliot's, "I've heard them lilting at the ewe milking" [from her MS on my website, and in Stenhouse's Illustration to The Scots Musical Museum, #63].
Mrs. Cockburn's, "I've seen the smiling of fortune beguiling". [Stenhouse's Illustrations to SMM #63.]
Mrs. John Hunter's (nee Ann Home), "Adieu, ye streams that smoothly glide" [SMM #63]

D_hand: As someone who grew up within sight of Flodden Field, I'm puzzled as to why you hate this song. Care to share?

John, me too, & I love it & I only live nearly within sight of you. See you tomorrow over Haggis. Barry

I'm wondering whether D. Hand is referring to Eric Bogle's NO MAN'S LAND, which makes mention of the traditional THE FLOWERS OF THE FOREST. I like Bogle's song, but it gets performed too often and that makes it lose its edge.

Joe, you may be right, hadn't thought of it that way, I think so much of "The Flowers Of The Forest" I can't imagine a more beautifully sad song lamenting the loss of so many. Barry

Interesting. Not sure if the original requester's been answered.

Anyway, I have someone asking for chords for the Flowers of the Forest. I've been looking all afternoon, but haven't found anything. Anyone have any ideas?
