I don't really want to spend any money on software. I know I can simply record the audio track in real time, but I'm wondering if there's a more direct way. I'm on a Mac. |

The only ripper for Mac seems to be Roxio's Popcorn. A little experimenting demonstrated that I can record directly onto a .wav file with CD Spin Doctor (which came with Toast, which I do have), doing this in real time and using the "internal microphone" setting. And since I just want to record bits of the DVD, not the whole thing, I'll go that way. I was hoping I didn't have to do something like record out to minidisc or tape, then record back in from that, and I don't. It gets a bit convoluted, but the reason I need to do this is to put guitar solos that I have on DVD into Amazing Slow Downer where I can transcribe them more easily. |

Download a copy of the free program called DVD Shrink (you'll have to search for it and download it from offshore if you're in the U.S.). Copy the DVD onto your computer then choose "ReAuthor" and that will let you parse out the audio track. You may have to convert that to something other than the format it is in to play on a CD. |
