11 Jan 06 - 04:51 AM (#1646155) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Jesus was a cowboy From: GUEST,Harper Hello - I'm responding on behalf of Fishbulb who kindly put the request up for me (I was struggling to navigate the forum!!). Yes - those are two songs off of the same album, which I recall listening to in the 80's - probably mid 80's. The album was pretty good all the way through and I'm trying to track it down again. I am unable to listen to the "Jamie Gazelle" version that someone has linked to but I'm thinking it's not that. It certainly isn't a gospel song (unless it's been reworked) and I don't think it was called "Jesus was a Cowboy", that's just part of the lyric. It was quite a damning song if I recall, and based on that lyric. Any clues? The "Drugs fit the face" - it opens with that being repeated qwuite fast, then it slows down and after that I can't remember much more. I included that song reference to form the associative bond to the album. Thanks for your interest! |

15 Jan 06 - 12:48 PM (#1648837) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Jesus was a cowboy From: Jim Dixon The first of the two songs requested is CLEAR AS CRYSTAL and the second is DRUGFACE. Both were written by Dick Witts and recorded by the British rock band The Passage on their album "Enflame," 1982. Their music has been described as synth-pop or electro-pop. But here is a bit of the one that Sorcha found from what i can hear of it... JESUS WAS A COWBOY by JAMIE GAZELLE Jesus was a cowboy He rode that Israel range He taught us how to love and pray But some folks said he was so strange Jesus never carried no guns His word was a sword He got him a posse of 12 good men And he set out to save the world With heaven as a reward He's roped my soul He's branded my heart |
