Celtic Connections Glasgow 2006

This is cut and pasted from an email I received today (as well as a phone call).

"It is with deep regret that the Celtic Connections festival announces that the opening concert of the 2006 festival featuring Carlos Nunez has been cancelled.
On Friday 6th January we were informed that due to technical reasons Spanish Theatre company La Fura Del Baus could not bring their proposed show in its full capacity to The Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. As this was a completely integrated performance with Carlos Nunez which was set to be both visually and musically spectacular all possible avenues were pursued to try to programme an opening event of equal magnitude. Unfortunately this could not be achieved to the level we desired to ensure all audience members would be satisfied, and it is in these regrettable circumstances that we have had to take the difficult decision to cancel this show.

We apologise for the inconvenience we know this will have caused."

Anyone who had a ticket should have been contacted, but this is for info in case you hadn't heard or were going to turn up on spec. I understand there will be refunds given. Unfortunately I think it was the only concert on the opening night apart from events at the separate event of the Glasgow fringe festival which appears in another thread.
I am mightily disappointed, but not much I can do about it!

Blimey! I bet the Festival organisers are well p*ss*d-off at losing their opening night concert.

Thanks for the email though. I'm travelling some 500 miles to Glasgow this weekend and had originally planned to travel on Wednesday in time to see Carlos Nunez.

Glad I'd already changed my plans and am now travelling Thursday - I was gutted to miss Carlos Nunez but I'd have been even more gutted to have travelled and found the show cancelled.

The rest of the Festival looks great though.

Far superior now to the Festival in my own home town.

I won't be getting there until Wed night anyway. Still, anyone who has worked in performance venues can seriously sympathize!

Hi Sidmouth Resident,
Do I know you? I go to Sidmouth festival every year, mainly Middle Bar and Bedford when not at organised events. You can PM me if any of this rings a bell.
I don't think you can really compare CC with Sidmouth, either in its 2005 form or previously: both are great but entirely different. Anyway, hope you enjoy it, and safe journey.
