11 Jan 06 - 03:36 PM (#1646438) Subject: Tech: Dated Threads From: Sandy Mc Lean I have noticed lately that old thread messages often don't appear in chronalogical order. This makes it very difficult to follow the drift of an earlier discussion. I assume that this is scrambled on the server for some reason, but I wonder why? Sandy |

11 Jan 06 - 03:48 PM (#1646444) Subject: RE: Tech: Dated Threads From: Crane Driver This has been explained before - probably on an old thread. Some while ago, the 'Cat went through a near-terminal event - the way computer systems do, from time to time. It has been lovingly put together from the scattered fragments, but anomalies remain. Threads dating from before the NTE are scrambled (posts to these threads made after the NTE should be OK), if you visit the members photos section you will find every photo is doubled, and the search function is up the swanee. Think of it as the side effects of resurrection. Even as we speak, thousands of nano-joeclones are swarming over mudcat central, splicing together the severed ends of reality and trying to make sense of it all. Or perhaps not. I'm just glad the place is here, mudquirks and all. Andrew |

I haven't used it enough to know that it always works, but it has worked the few times I've needed a quick unscramble. John |

In today's world (2006) memory is cheap. When the DT began, even a 6gig HD was only a rumor swirling in silicon dust.
Download the DT...today. 99.7 of the current MC is a "chatter-box-forum."
Do not feel "hurt" because your snippet of "wisdom" has been "lost" in a "defrag of the disk"....However,...
....be sincerely thankful, that this archaic bit of digital universe continues to survive against ALL - ODDS (after an auto incident like Max's - I would have said FU to the entire free-loading-UKers - but Max is a good man and collecting kline-geld.)

12 Jan 06 - 01:12 AM (#1646816) Subject: RE: Tech: Dated Threads From: Joe Offer We don't want to do anything to unscramble threads one-by-one because that would make it impossible to do a complete unscrambling. There are a number of technical issues to resolve before the threads can be unscrambled. For the time being, the "printer-friendly" link at the top of the thread is the best solution. Max has begun to eliminate double entries on some of our menus, but I see that our Links Page and Digital Tradition are still duplicated. -Joe Offer- |
