BS: Hamsters with gills

From: GUEST,Concerned

A certain we4ll known hamster fan on this forum has just been told by his landlord that the only animals that he can keep in his flat are fish. As a well known hamster lover this presents him with a problem..........how many generations of interbreeding does it take to breed hamsters with gills? I know there are several learned geneticists on mudcat with personal experience of breeding close to the genetic "edge".....i.e.cousins.....any advice? A whole genus of hampsters could be under threat here!!!!!

If, as I am sure you must, you want TWO gills, you shouldn't encounter too many problems-- that is, as long as you put the right stuff in them.

"Legs off, fins on, little metal tube through the back of its neck so it can breath, make a lovely fish that would!"

In their embryological phase they pass through that stage so perhaps that qualifies them de facto?

or - rather then go through the time and effort to breed hamsters with gills - you could just fill their cage with oxegen supercharged water - the pressure containment system would be a bit more expensive then your standard hamster-trail habitat system - but it could be done.

But that would be no good, now that the hampster lover is no longer a captain of a curry ship, because as we know....

all the nice gills love a sailor.

I'll get me coat.

With their legs off, they can't be featured in "Rodent Track Magazine anymore, but they at least can't pull any Hamster-ing muscles. Furthermore, with no arms, they can't play those "Gilled" guitars underwater any more...

And we won't get to hear:

"...She was only a Hampster
In a gilled-ed tank..."

"...If I had a hamster
I'd hamster in the morning
I'd hamster in the evening
All over the place...
It's the Gerbil Of Justice
It's the Guinea Pig of Free-ee-dom (Aren't we all!)..."

"Dis Nine pound hamster (HUNH!)
Killed and ate John Henry (HUNH!)
Spit out de bones, Lawd, Lawd,
And he spit out de bones (HUNH!)

....and all our other favorites.

But I've got to hit the rodent, Jack! See you folks later.....

Yes, mooman -

When the constabulary come to arrest jOhn, he can explain that "ontogeny recapitulates phylogeny - it's the law!" Er, Haeckel's law, that is.

All those songs and more can be found on "The Greatest Hits Of Lionel Hampster & His Orch."

You aren't suggesting that jOhn is a Orc are you Severn?

Hull has John Prescot already. More than one Orc would just be too much.

BTW, the Church officially declared beavers to be fish*, and they're related to hamsters.

* This is really true. It meant the faithful could eat beaver on a friday. Except monks, who were supposed to give up that kind of thing...

Foolestroupe,

I believe that I have grasped the general tenor of what you decided not to write but I might of course be mistaken...

No, no orcs. Lionel Hampster was famous for only good vibes.

However, since Igor Beaver & His Orch. Of The Dammed seems to have taken over the bandstand, I guess anything goes. These guys got the BIG bucks ...

Shhhhh! He's about to strike up his opening number, a Bossa
Gnaw-va type thing....

Soft an warm and young and tender,
The Beaver From Ipana goes walking
And when she passes, all the boys go,
"Aww gee Wally! No cleavage?!?! And she's got a flat tail!"

(I'll leave the rest to the beavers and your imaginations.)

A little snorkel up the backside, and teach them to sing slip-jigs. Hmmm, could work.

What kind of meat do monks eat on Fridays?

None.

Except barnacle geese, which also count as fish, apparently.

Otters can be eaten on fridays too. They also count as fish, apparently.

Maybe, with a boat and a couple of aquatic hamsters in hamster wheels, you could re-invent the paddle steamer.

In that case, 'hamsters with gills' would definitely be 'half seas over'....
