Keep this thread refreshed. Someone from Oz is bound to have either the lyrics or a link to them.

G'day GUEST & Peace,

the Slim Dusty Discography site tells me that it was on:

Album Title THAT'S THE SONG WE'RE SINGING
Track Listing: That's The Song We're Singing, Jack O'hagan, She'll Be Right, Mate, Tibrogargan, That's The Way I Am, The Day We Sold The Farm, Bucking Horse Called Time, Mangrove Boogie Kings, My Dad Was A Roadtrain Man, Hard And Calloused Hands, Memory Hotel, All My Mates Are Gone, Life Behind The Windscreen, The Last Of Her Line, Old Bush Road.
Catalogue Number 7806434 TC, 7806432 CD
First Released October 1992
... one of many of Slim's that I don't have!

The Country Music types are too canny to have free lyrics ( or tune / chords / tab / ABC ? whatever) sites ... if you want the song - buy the record! Maybe some other Aussie, with a strong leaning to Slim's very good songs, will have the words down somewhere - it's just not one that I do ... or pass on at my sessions.

Regards,

Bob

Most, if not all Slim Dusty's songs have been released in printed sheet music form of many volumes. I thought I had the link, but can;t find it - must be on the old PC that died. I'm not sure whether all all of his 100+ LP/CDs are in print at the moment.

While we're at it, I'm looking for "Here We Go Round

G'day: The Peace that passeth all understanding ... (of nice simple "blue clickies"),

They use to be difficult, when you had to do (... well, at least remember!) the codes and all that. Now you just find the site
- copy the URL (all: inc. http://~)
- paste that all into the first box
- type an intelligible title into the second box
- 'click' on "Make Link'
- click on "Test Link" to make sure it all works
- copy the text line indicates
... and paste that into your posting.

It comes up as"
Slim Dusty CD

Regard(les)s,

Bob

All My Mates Are Gone by Slim Dusty

ALL MY MATES ARE GONE
(Slim Dusty)

The muscles in these arms have gone weak now,
They wouldn't hold a horse anymore,
But girl, these hands were there when history formed its pages,
Back when this country was still ragged, rough and raw.

Yes I've sat tight on the best my girl,
Back when the fire of youth beat proudly in my breast,
Back when this body, now broken, down and useless
Could ride all day and ring it with the best.

Girl, I was droving on the Birdsville Track,
When instinct was a man's only guide,
Where if you lost your bearings, the sand hills claimed your carcass.
When the sun had played the life from your hide.

I thank you, girl, for list'nin' to this broken ringer's ravings,
Another sunrise girl, I'll never know,
My mind is projecting, a film of years long gone,
And I'm watching now my last picture show.

Once again I see the blackened core pots boiling,
I can taste again the strong black billy tea,
Taste the damper from the ashes, smell the rib bones on the coal,
See the saddle 'neath the tough old mulga tree.

I can hear the cattle bellow and the cracking of the whips,
Again the harness jangles in these ears,
I smell the smell of well-oiled leather, feel the comfort of my swag,
As my memory races back across the years.

And there across the desert, a lonely team of camels,
Stretches slowly 'cross the brightness of the sand,
And there's old Gool Mohammad, Charlie and GERARD ???,
Nose leads hanging loosely in their hand.

I can see the brumbies buckin', as Bob the breaker tries,
Once again to gain another working hack,
And there's ole "One-eyed Willie" the best tailor in the north,
These were the men that made the great outback.

So I thank you girl for list'nin' to this broken ringer's ravings,
There's no regrets, in fact, I'm glad to go,
Old ringers are a breed that your world doesn't need,
And I'll be glad to do some skitin' with those mates from long ago.

There's no one left who knew me girl when I had you to smile upon,
I've lost all my identity, 'cause all my mates are gone.

I did a quick check against the YouTube version by Slim Dusty and I cannot make out the name above in capital letters.

G'day GUEST,999,

Thanks for getting back to close off our other GUEST's request of nearly seven years back! (.. Well, at least 99% of it!)

I guess we have to recognise that good old songs live on for ever - as long as someone still wants to sing them ... and that's the heart of "Folk / Country / Bush / Whatever" music!

Regards,

Bob
