Happy Birthday!

General, traitor, hero and eponym,

Benedict Arnold

was born 1/14/1741
(d. June 14, 1801, London)

When Major Andrew saw that death it was his lot,
He asked for pen and paper, and begged leave for to, write,
        To write to General Arnold to inform him of his fate;
He asked for some assistance, but oh, it was too late.
When General Arnold read those lines. it put him in a fret
The tears they run down till his eyes and cheeks they were wet.
And now the traitor Arnold is fighting for his king.
And left poor Major Andrew on the gallows for to swing.

"Major Andrews' Execution," DigTrad filename[ ANDREXEC, etc.

But why did he do it? Money & women, apparently. I'm shocked!

"1/14: Happy (Julian) New Year's Day - (in all years on the old civil calendar)"

Here, in Russia, people still celebrate this 'Old New Year' (the old calendar has been changed here in 1917(or 18?)).
I suppose, this tradition will die soon.
But now, people begin drinking 12.25 and stop it at 01.14... Oh:( my head...

Happy Old New Year!

December 25 - Jan14, I mean, of course.
Not 12.25 o'clock.

:-) Never mind. Sobriety isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Thanks for the insight.

Sobriety isn't all it's cracked up to be.

And moderation's all right in small doses. But when you take it to extremes ....
