Happy Birthday!

Austin, Texas

Alan Lomax

was born

1/15/1915
(d. July 19, 2002)

Collected some folksongs, printed and recorded a few of them.
Received The National Medal of Arts, 1986.

Actually, Lawless wrote in 1960, one "would have to search far to find a living person who has done more than Alan Lomax in collecting, recording, and especially popularizing the vast body of our native songs." Lomax then worked another 42 years.

ALSO:
Composer/folksong collector/musicologist, Elie Sigmeister was born 1/15/1909 (d. March 10, 1991). It was Sigmeister that wrote the good notes for the Baez Songbook & who collected the very intriguing relic, "The Bold Fisherman" (Twinkie doodledum type) in upstate New York.

A search on Alan Lomax at the University of Texas at Austin gives many solid hits.
