17 Jan 06 - 05:37 PM (#1650427) Subject: Lyric Request: WeezWomp (?) From: GUEST,Bruce, Nonmember I'm looking for the lyrics to a children's song. I can only guess how to spell the name. Some of the lyrics are along the lines of: A strange little bird is the WeezWomp It ends where it ought to begin. It takes daily baths in a dewdrop, It sleeps on the point of a pin. It was a song on a children's record from the 60s about which I have no further information. Does it ring any bells out there? Thanks. |

From: Peace A strange little bird Is a WheezWomp It ends where it ought to begin It eats only blossoms and moon beams And sleeps on the point of a pin Its wings are heavy to fly with So it floats like a leaf on the breeze It wants you to stop what you're doing And sing it a sweet melody. Found that with a Google of "It ends where it ought to begin", strange little bird It is someone's recollection of the song. |

I would have acknowledged sooner, but I have been having trouble getting onto the web site. I also did a Google search, but the only link was a web site that does not seem to be active, so I could only see as much as appeared in the Google window. I checked with the person who was trying to remember the song, who pieced together a third verse: The WheezWomp is nice, but it's lazy. It won't build a nest of its own. It hides from the rain neath a daisy, And cries when you leave it alone. This person's recollection was that in the second verse: "Its wings are too curly to fly with", which sort of fits better than heavy wings with it floating on the breeze. Still hoping to find a lead on who recorded the song, but thanks again for your reply. |

18 Mar 08 - 08:18 AM (#2291481) Subject: RE: Lyric Request: WeezWomp (?) From: Jim Dixon Found at Google Answers: I drove my mother crazy with this 78 when I was little, in the early 50's. It was a small (8"?) 78 RPM record made of green vinyl, with an orange label, and it was called "The Weez Wump." I am certain of the spelling. I have no idea what was on the other side. The story line was that it's time for Baby Elephant to go to sleep, but she can't until her mother sings her favorite lullaby--"Please, Mommy--you know which one!" (recalled here in fragments): A strange little bird is the Weez Wump It ends where it ought to begin It takes daily baths in a dewdrop And sleeps on the head of a pin The Weez Wump is nice but it's lazy It won't build a nest of its own It (hides from the sun 'neath a daisy?) And cries when you leave it alone Its wings are too curly to fly with So it floats on a leaf in the breeze ... ... It ended with: Sleepy Weez Quiet please! "And Baby Elephant is fast asleep." |

16 Aug 16 - 06:06 PM (#3805442) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Weez Womp / Weez Wump From: GUEST,Kat This song was my husband's favorite as a little boy. In fact he wore out the 78 record he played it so much. Happy to see the "wings" verse we didn't know and that others have enjoyed this lovely lullaby. My children loved it and so do their children. This is the way his little-boy-memory recalls the song. A sweet little bird is a Weez Wump, he ends where it ought to begin. He eats only moss from dried moonbeams, and sleeps on the head of pin. He cries when he hears pretty music. He could sing but he won't even try. He wants you to stop what you're doing and sing him a sweet lullaby. A Weez Whump is nice but he's lazy, He won't build a nest of his own. He drinks only dew from the daisy, and cries when you leave him alone. He cries when he hears pretty music. He could sing but he won't even try. He wants you to stop what you're doing and sing him a sweet lullaby. Weeez Wump. Weezy, Weezy Wump. Weezy, Weezy, Weeez Wump. |
31 Jan 17 - 08:54 AM (#3835909) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Weez Womp / Weez Wump From: GUEST,Tomas in Australia "It eats only muffins and moonbeams..." Aaaawww... One of my all time favourite songs. We still have the record, "Sleepytime Songs" by H Wilbur, Carousel Records, Code C 807. The address on the cover is: PO Box 125, Lawndale, California USA. The track list is: Sleep Baby Sleep Bye Baby Bunting Me And My Teddy Bear Pinocchio Mary Had A Little Lamb The Wee Wump Ding Dong Dell Sleepy Time For Dolly Three Little Kittens It's interesting, the title on the cover reads 'The Wee Wump', not 'Weez'. I don't have a record player any more, but once I get hold of one I will transcribe the lyrics for you. Cheers, Tomás tomasflamenco (at) gmail (dot) com. Canberra, Australia |
