19 Jan 06 - 06:40 AM (#1651459) Subject: Leatherhead - Surrey From: Betsy Sorry to put this on the Song /Music bit - but this is the part of Mudcat I usually read . Anyway, I need to go to Leatherhead in my work for some months and apart from wanting to know if there are any Folk / Acoustic Clubs my main question is "Does anyone know of the whereabouts of any sensible accommodation around Leatherhead for a mature - aged person "? I would be very grateful for any advice / contacts . Cheers Betsy. |

19 Jan 06 - 08:07 AM (#1651500) Subject: RE: Leatherhead - Surrey From: mooman Here's a link to The Chanticleer Acoustic and Traditional Music Club, Dorking I was the organizer for five yearsin the late 80s and beginning of the 90s and it is a good and welcoming club. Claygate is a really excellent club and is also near Leatherhead (Friday evening I think but it's been 15 years now). Peace moo |

21 Jan 06 - 04:40 PM (#1653030) Subject: RE: Leatherhead - Surrey From: Surreysinger Gadaffi isn't quite right - the club in Guildford is actually run principally by Lawrence Heath.I can't take the credit for that (it's the sort of thing he's been doing very successfully in this area for years). I actually help out on the very small committee and threaten everybody with raffle tickets, and ,occasionally at the Electric Voices concerts, with merchandise for the artistes. The Music Institute Club in Guildford (formerly the Good Old Way Folk Club) is located at the Guildford Institute in Ward Street (off North Street) in Guildford, and meets once a month, mainly on a Friday (although with some variations in the next few months). The next meeting (as I've posted on another thread) will be on Friday 27th January when the guests will be Ed Rennie and Jackie Oates. Lawrence also runs a series of very successful concerts in Guildford, Cranleigh, and on occasion in Farnham (mostly on Saturdays). The last of these was last night in Guildford at the Electric Theatre - Last Night's Fun, and the next will be at Cranleigh in February (Kathryn Tickell and Corinna Hewatt). You can get full details of all of these at http://www.electricvoices.org As far as other clubs in the area I think those have already been covered by everybody else! Irene |
