BS: Where does the Mudcat go to?

Subject: BS: Where does the Mudcat go to?
From: Grab

Does anyone know the reason for the daily outages on Mudcat? UK time, it seems to be mornings during the week, and evenings at weekends. Is this Max saving electricity? Or does he only have a limited number of wall sockets, and the server is getting disconnected to make way for the coffee maker...?

Just curious really, cos I've not seen any threads about this.

I figured it might be hiding under the dining room table.

I think it goes to the place lost socks go. Probably to feed.

Down the back of the sofa or under the piano. You can drop something upstairs in the front bedroom in our house and you will find it, 4 days later, under the piano, downstairs, in the dining room at the back of the house..... I'll check there for the 'Cat next time I lose an earring in the bathroom.

I'm convinced that pianos generate a sort of magnetic field that attracts all objects small enough to pass under said piano but only one way. Never any socks there though. They get eaten by the washing machine.

Yeah, it is a pain. As I've said in other threads, Max has been working on the Mudcat servers, and his work may take a few weeks. We still have a lot of work to do to recover from the Big Crash we had several months ago.

As far away from MG threads as it can, has a few Beers and just gives up for a while?.
Forum Servers like Members may even have a 'tune out morons' mode.
Maybe Max is installing servers with an anti-idiot program built in and after the installation work is completed certain fools will be made homeless, left to wander cyber space in the hope of getting attention, any kind of attention, somewhere else
One can dream.
or maybe Mudcat just gets tired and takes a nap!

The Café exists on a server in Max's basement between the clothes dryer and the litter box. When the cat does what cats do, the cat then does what cats then do. In pawing the litter, the little furball gererates static electricity. When it steps out of the litter box and onto one of the statically charged socks attempting to make a break for it from the dryer, it picks up even more electrical potential. Of course, the cat understands Max's affinity for the server and does what cats do... marks the server with it's scent.

Now, if the cat has had a real good one and done a lot of pawing, and, if it has stepped on a sock(s) which went through the dryer with no ati-static sheet or fabric softener, the potential charge is so great that it jumps the secondary protection, ie, the cowling ground, and trips the primary protection which shuts down the system as a safety precaution so that data is not lost.

I suppose you might ask why Max doesn't just shove an anti-static Bounce sheet up the Cat's ass. Because Max is a kind and gentle soul who would never allow harm to come to his beloved Cat(s).

Me? Well, maybe. But... I don't know why you ask.

I think that should be posted in the FAQ as the 'official' reason for the 'cat sometimes not being available!

Love it gnu!!

Lost socks? I've got a carrier bag full of them, but they don't have pairs in this house! I have a friend who also has a bag of lost socks - we're going to get together one day for a Sock Exchange. (it might work, her other half lived here many years ago....)

Well, being new to this I DID start a thread on it, and was told it was "maintenance" etc. But yer right--it is down a lot (at least here), and often will time out before it opens for hours at a time. And then, I can get to the main page, but the "Forums" won't open...or I can get to the Forums, but individual threads won't open. And posts won't post. I know--do I want some cheese with my whine. Hey--I LOVE cheese!

Then the pro-macassars would show up and you know where that leads to.

Yeah...they'd remind us that all of the trouble in the world is directly related to the Macedonian massacre of the proto-macassares by the anti-macassars in 1877.

Once on the opening day of fishin' season on Lake Minnetonka (Black Lake) I caught an enormous small mouth bass, and everybody in all the boats around were really saying how big it was. But dadgummit, bass season didn't open till the next day, so I had to throw it back, and . . .
   what???
