I thought it was a pretty common song, but I don't find it in digitrad. Am I just typing it in wrong?

Merrily we roll along, roll along, roll along...
(what't the rest of it? all the livelong day?)

Geez, sometimes you know something toooo well to remember it! I was starting in the middle, that's why I couldn't remember the beginning.

Thanks MM.

I'd suggest it is part of the chorue of I've Got Sixpence", a favorite camp song.

And how is it related to "Mary Had a Little Lamb"?

It was also used by the barbershop quartet in the musical, The Music Man,( at least the Goodnight Ladies portion) as a countermelody to Pickalittle Talkalittle.

Only by the tune, Joe. And mainly in the US at that - only heard MHALL being "sung" by the distortred speakers in coin-operated kiddies rides in shopping malls this side of the pond, never a live performance!

It was the first tune we were taught at the Victorian Banjo Club (banjo-mandolins - shudder!) when I was ten. Down Down Down Down Down Down Down Up Down.
We sang the words too.

Merrily we roll along
Roll along. Roll along.
Merrily we roll along.
All the livelong day.

Cheers, Joy

It's ideal for Censored Songs (the dubious bits being bleeped out):

Goodnight Ladies,
Goodnight Ladies,
Goodnight Ladies,
We're going to _____ you now!

The classic example being:

I could have ______ all night...
