Advertising as threads?

Are people allowed to start threads advertising - e.g. jobs?
I ask this as a separate thread to avoid bringing the ad back to the top.

It's not my call but I would vote for announcements of things like jobs, musical instruments, musical events, camps etc. Things like used toasters, dryers etc. should probably go elsewhere. mg

Which ad thread are you referring to, Mo?

When it's advertising that has nothing to do with music and if it comes from somebody who has nothing to do with Mudcat, we call it Spam and delete it. There was a Spam thread up earlier today, and that may be what motivated you to start this thread. The thread was deleted quite quickly, before I got up this morning (hey, I'm in California...)

Generally, we leave music stuff up to on the Forum Menu, and we encourage gig and CD announcements, announcing musician job opportunities, selling guitars, and the like. When people from outside our community drop in just to sell their wares, that's another matter, especially if their music isn't folk music.
For non-music selling, that goes down on the bottom half of the Forum Menu, and it's generally reserved for members of our community. If you're a Mudcat regular and do handicrafts or want to sell a Morris Minor or a canoe, I can't see anything wrong with posting something about that once in a while.

If your business is multi-level marketing or if you're starting self-promotion threads several times a week, that's another matter.

Oh, and I'm advertising for a canoeing partner in the California Foothills. The one I'm married to has weak wrists and always drops the canoe as we're putting it on top of the car, so she's about to get fired as a canoeing partner. When she drops the canoe, I get hurt. As a result, we didn't use the canoe at all last year.

I hope it is only the canoeing that is a problem Joe?
Sounds very like like my walking - neve rhappens anymore.

Ach well if music (whcih does happen - too frequently at times) be the food of love then we're all very ****y

Hi Joe

I fancy the canoeing bit, trouble is I'm in England and the only person I know who lives in California where I could use as a base(30 miles from frisco)is staying with me at the moment ..... sigh
