I like them all. But which is best? Vote your preference.

I don't give a fig about the other but I always bring my nuts on a date.

I like dates, but they're not all the same. I'm particularly fond of August 14, 1969, but October 13, 1985 I could do without.

Q: Why did the raisin go out with the prune?
A: Because he couldn't find a date.

Regarding the original question...

I was going to say I like nuts.

But I wasn't about to post that.

We have a fig tree and when the fruit is ripe there's nothing better.
Really soft to touch, green on the outside but red on the inside and they taste wonderful - almost like eating strawberry jam.
They'll be ready in a couple of months. I can't wait.

Dates are great as an ingredient in baked goods, but are inedible all by themselves. They are in the same food group as fruitcakes, something you buy in bulk to send to people on Christmas because you can't be bothered with shopping for individual gifts.

Figs are better, especially as Newtons, but the seeds get caught in your teeth.

Nuts - especially almonds, filberts, walnuts and pecans are fine, but not brazil nuts, which taste like dirt.

The best fig I ever ate was picked from a tree, warm from the sun, in the gardens of the Generalife in Granada.

Stolen fruit tastes the sweetest . . .

Fresh figs off the tree are incredible. Totally different from the dried ones, they have a delicate and sweet flavor that can hardly be beat.

When it comes to dates, Medjool are the kings.

For nuts I think I like fresh raw almonds the best. All nuts are way better without salt (once you get used to the idea), and way better for you that way too.

Some nuts do take medication for their symptoms.

Others just post their problems on Mudcat and look for help and some pity.

Some people are driven nuts or are sent prematurely into the grave BY their medications. I've known a few like that.

My recommendation: take no medication at all if you can possibly avoid it, always eat a good diet, get fresh air and exercise, and drink plenty of clean water. And find something productive to do that you like doing. You will probably never need much, if any, medication.

Some pretty good advice for nuts, Little Hawk.

Now what do you reccommend for dates?

Dates, nuts and figs are all good. But I try to stay currant.
One of my garden catalogs offers a Chicago Fig, that, they claim will survive anything winter can dish out. I think I may order one.

"Some nuts do take medication for their symptoms. Others just post their problems on Mudcat and look for help and some pity."

And some just project their problems on teh rest of us here...

"Dates, nuts and figs are all good. But I try to stay currant. "
