15 Feb 06 - 12:10 PM (#1669456) Subject: RE: BS: Rocky and Bullwinkle! From: clueless don Some years ago, I was walking around a fair of some sort and I came upon a fellow doing the shell game, surrounded by a sizable audience. As he manipulated the three shells, he started saying "Eenie, meanie, chili beanie, the spirits are about to speak!" Well, right on cue I said "Are they friendly spirits?" Complete silence. No one seemed to pick up on the reference - including the shell game operator! Of course, in his defense, my piping up with that line may have interrupted his concentration, so he may have decided to ignore me in hopes that I would go away. Don |

16 Feb 06 - 10:50 PM (#1670643) Subject: RE: BS: Rocky and Bullwinkle! From: Ron Davies Ah, finally a way to unite all Mudcatters--right across the political spectrum, evidently. It definitely is the best cartoon of all time, as far as I'm concerned. My favorite part was probably Bullwinkle's Corner--especially when he read poetry. I loved the hard-bitten cops grilling Tom-- "Now listen, Piperson..." , "The Swing", and probably all the others too. And so much else. When somebody says "presto" I still say "wrong hat". I definitely would have picked up on Eenie Meenie, Chili Beanie! The spirits are about to speak! That was a great story too. Thanks so much, LH, for those links--I've already learned so much more than I knew before--had no idea about Moossylvania etc. What a great story!--and in October 1962! And Jay Ward also did Crusader Rabbit?--that was one of the best of the earlier cartoons--and you can see the pedigreee. |

16 Feb 06 - 10:53 PM (#1670647) Subject: RE: BS: Rocky and Bullwinkle! From: Little Hawk I loved the way they reduced the Cold War to an exercise in total idiocy on both sides (which is exactly what it was)! It was a gloriously conceived cartoon. |

17 Feb 06 - 01:59 PM (#1671296) Subject: RE: BS: Rocky and Bullwinkle! From: Pauline L Everyone has missed something very important. "Rocky and Bullwinkle" is part of the Suzuki method for teaching small kids rhythm. Say "Rocky and Bullwinkle," and you've got two quarter notes followed by four eighth notes. I love Boris Badenov and Natasha. Was Dudley Do-right part of this show? |
|
17 Feb 06 - 06:28 PM (#1671466) Subject: RE: BS: Rocky and Bullwinkle! From: Little Hawk Yes, Dudley and his Horse had their own mini-show within the larger show. They spent much time rescuing Nell, the damsel-in-distress, from Snidely Whiplash, the arch-villian. Snidely could be played very well by Daniel Day-Lewis in a live version...a la Bill the Butcher, but not nearly as effective. Nell was in love with Dudley's Horse, Dudley was in love with Nell, and Snidely was in love with pure evil for its own sake. The Horse I am not sure about. |

18 Feb 06 - 10:12 AM (#1671905) Subject: RE: BS: Rocky and Bullwinkle! From: Donuel True Story: The 2 writers for the Rocky and Bullwinkle show had a scheduled meeting with President Kennedy to honor the fictional Frostbite Falls with its own official day or other such idea. When they arrived they were turned away because that was day 1 of the Cuban Missle Crises. I have about a hundred Rocky and Bullwinkle toys including all the 13 stuffed plush versions that came out about 9 years ago. The Sherman and Peabody as well as Dudley and his horse are particularly outrageous. The great civil war episodes in the form of a football game remain our favorite. |

From: robomatic In my first engineering job the chief engineer took time after lunch every day to walk back to his house and watch Rocky and Bullwinkle. He was a good guy. I am more than twice the age now he was then. My childhood favorite series of Rocky & Bullwinkle was the Metal Munching Moon Mice. I owe to R & B my fear of short guys with big shadows and my devotion to tall brunettes in black raincoats. And my superb fake Russian accent: "BE HE HE HE!" The greatest show that ever was and still is, "The Simpsons" gave Homer the middle initial 'J' in honour of Rocket J. Squirrel and Bullwinkle J. Moose who got them from their creator Jay Ward. |
