Chords: Redback on the Toilet Seat (Slim Newton)

Subject: Chord Req: Redback on the Toilet Seat
From: Muttley

I've checked DT and Forum / past threads etc - can't find the chords anywhere and the only 'net sites I found were "temporarily inaccessible"

So can anyone out there help me with the chords to this one???

Muttley

Slim Newton - REDBACK ON THE TOILET SEAT

            D                               G
There was a redback on the toilet seat when I was there last night
A                                     A7          D
I didn't see him in the dark but boy I felt his bite
                                        G
I jumped high up into the air and when I hit the ground
       A                            A7
that crafty redback spider wasn't nowhere to be found

            G                                                D
There was a redback on the toilet seat when I was there last night
      E                           E7             A7
I didn't see him in the dark but boy I felt his bite
   D                              G
And now I'm here in hospital, a sad and sorry plight
       A                              A7                D
and I curse the redback spider on the toilet seat last night

            D                               G
I rushed in to the missus told her just where I'd been bit
A                                     A7          D
she grabbed the cutthroat razor and I nearly took a fit
                                        G
I said, "Just forget what's on your mind and call the doctor please
       A                            A7
Cos' I've got a feeling that your cure is worse than the disease

            G                                                D
There was a redback on the toilet seat when I was there last night
      E                           E7             A7
I didn't see him in the dark but boy I felt his bite
   D                              G
And now I'm here in hospital, a sad and sorry plight
       A                              A7                D
and I curse the redback spider on the toilet seat last night

No ovffense, OM, but this site gives band width to racists and Nazis, George Bush and Dick Cheney. Slim Dusty is worth the whole damn crew of 'em, IMO.

Anyway, I thought the Mudcat was mainly about music, not that other crap. Damn right the lyrics and chords are worth the bandwidth.

Not only that, but the 'redback on the toilet seat' idea is a very well-known piece of Australian folklore - referring to the outdoor dunny which is so much a part of Australian folklore that it has had books written about it. I should know - I have one hanging near my (indoor) loo, courtesy of freda underhill (a book, that is, not a spider, although we have those hanging around too).

Slim Dusty didn't record Redback on the Toilet Seat.   It was Slim Newton

I suppose it's a title which might give rise to misunderstandings outside Australia.

Well I was bitten by a Redback spider on my foot a few years ago and I don't recommend it! It was hiding in my shoe which had been left outside overnight. Didn't hurt much at first, but after a few hours it felt like I'd been hit with a hammer, a very large one. Made both of my legs sweat. Went to local hospital who gave me some anti-venom,told me I needed two thingies of it but they only keep one in stock!
Told me to go to another hospital the next day, where a doctor said it would just get better by itself and gave me some very strong pain killers. It was all OK again in about 72 hours.
I did meet Slim Dusty once [who didn't sing it!]at an EMI Records function.

I think it was John Williamson who did a parody of this song.....from the spider's point of view.

Redbacks caused a scare with an aluminium smelting firm in the UK. They import squashed cans for recycling in huge containers. On opening one container it was swarming with redbacks. It was closed and fumigated PDQ but the Occ Health Dept had to keep anti- venm after that. Empty cokecans and dark - ideal breeding grounds for spiders

Australian flora and fauna are often mysterious to the rest of the world, but the Redback spider (Latrodectus hasselti) would be easily recognized as a member of the Black widow genus (Latrodectus). There are 4 species in the US and Canada.
