16 Feb 06 - 01:35 PM (#1670088) Subject: A new CD of Ted Edwards' songs From: Mark Dowding "Ted Edwards and Cronies" Cock Robin Music in the guise of Chris Harvey has been busy recording various people singing some of Ted Edwards' songs following the release last year of a live performance of Ted at Wigan folk club that I recorded in 1984. The new CD entitled "Ted Edwards and Cronies" features new recordings made at Cock Robin Studios and some old recordings that Ted found in his collection that he made of himself years ago - quality of them not too hot but Chris has done the magic with the restoration software and they don't sound too bad now. The "Cronies" are: Sid Calderbank Bernard Cromarty Chris Harvey Ged Todd & Sue Todd The tracks are: 1- Aw Sir! 2- Johnny's Fayther's Gone 3- Penny for Mary 4- Henry V111 5- Dance! Dance! 6- Jobs! 7- Are We Mugs Or Are We Men? 8- A Silver Song 9- Ladybird 10-Weepin' An' Wailin' Away 11-Inquest 12-Alfred the Grate 13-Teacher! Teacher! 14-Coal Hole Cavalry 15-It Really Doesn't Matter 16-The Coal and Albert Berry 17-Go Down To Hew The Coal The cost of this CD is a measly £6 which includes the postage (in the UK) and can be bought from: Ted Edwards "The Garret" 6 Westminster Road Eccles Manchester M30 9HF UK Please make cheques for £6 payable to "Ted Edwards" and don't forget to include your name and address (some people don't - believe it or not!) If you want to get in touch with Ted electronically his email address is thegarret@tesco.net if you want more information. I'm sure this CD will do as well as the Wigan one if not better! Cheers Mark |

08 Mar 06 - 11:14 AM (#1688287) Subject: Review: Ted Edwards and cronies From: Dave the Gnome Bought the Album on Monday and had a listen last night - Excellent stuff! All the songs and monalogues written by the man himself and he appears on lots of the tracks. Since his stroke his performances may not be what the used to be but his wit and intelligence still sparkles through:-) they are on sale at the White Lion for £5 and if anyone wants one let me know - I will stand the P&P for the UK but will have to come to some arrangement to send them overseas. I dunno if Bernard has any (he appears on it!) or if anyone else is marketing them. It would make a wonderful addition to anyones collection and a grand companion to the Wigan Folk Club CD that Mark resurrected some time ago:-) Teds novel is also out but I am not sure where that can be got. Cheers DtG |
08 Mar 06 - 08:13 PM (#1688682) Subject: RE: A new CD of Ted Edwards' songs From: Bernard Yes, I have plenty! I've sold around thirty to date, so Ted is well pleased. I feel really honoured that I was asked to perform three of the songs... Penny for Mary, Ladybird and Coal Hole Cavalry. Unfortunately, he had a fall in his kitchen two weeks ago, and cracked some ribs, which has curtailed his activities completely. He'd be glad of some letters and emails, though! His stroke (in 1992) left him paralyzed down his right side, and he had to learn how to speak again. The problem is, if he loses his balance he has no way of preventing himself falling heavily on his right side... his arm gets in the way, and he cracks some ribs - sometimes worse. He is surprisingly upbeat, although he is in some pain. |

24 Aug 10 - 04:18 PM (#2972013) Subject: RE: A new CD of Ted Edwards' songs From: GUEST,How is Ted? 4 years after the last post here, and a great sadness about this state at the time. I never knew the man but anyone who can write Coal Hoal Cavalry has to be a top man. Is he still around? Is his CD still around? I'd pay more than 6 squid or more if the bulk goes to him or his family. I've been performing Coal Hole Cavalry to friends for many years, and explaining what the words mean (even if my accent is not quite right...) and most people seem to get it and the history it represents. |

I think the CD is currently 'out of stock', but I can do you an official bootleg copy and give the proceeds to Ted on your behalf if you wish. |
