Does anybody know of any pennywhistle tutors in the North London/Enfield area at all? Many thanks

Peter

Hi, Peter,

Someone to teach you is helpful (and will put you under some pressure to keep practising) but you should be able to make good progress on your own. There is a tutor book by Geraldine Cotter which makes a good starting point (published by Ossian I think). There are others too, but I don't have the details to hand.

Also one or two whistle players have excellent websites. But your starting point on the internet must, without question, be:

CHIFF'N'FIPPLE

which has absolutely everything you will ever need to know about the tin, penny, plastic, low, and Irish whistle - otherwise known as the six-hole end-blown flute.

By the way, "tune add" is not an appropriate prefix for this topic, so keep in mind that it might get removed by some Mudcat minder scouring the threads for songs and tunes to add to the database.

Good luck.

Ypu can also find pennywhistle notation and fingering for many of the songs in the Digital Tradition at this site.

DT Alternative Site

1) Scroll down to the alphabetical list of tunes

2)Find and click onto the tune you want to play

3)Below the music you will see the words "This score is available as ..." Click on blue Pennywhistle Formation link.
