Anybody got a copy of this 45 single by Ewan McColl? I looked up a couple of discographies of McColl and the single wasn't even mentioned. Is it likely to be expensive? The B side, by the way, is "Hard Case".

Hi Greg,

Have you tried GEMM? Google for GEMM (Global Electronic Market Marketplace) which is a search engine for S/H records. Not exactly user friendly IMHO but if it is anywhere it will be there.

I would have posted a blicky but at the moment it is not functioning!!

Folkiedave: thanks for that. I'll have to look around. I havent dreamed the existence of this record up, there must be people in the world who have heard of it.

Greg,

This link might be some help to you: http://72.14.207.104/search?q=cache:hdj3zgZIfSIJ:www.wcml.org.uk/people/em/discs.htm+Dirty+Old+Town,+ewan+maccoll,+recorded+on+4

Please note that the search will be easier using Ewan MacColl--note spelling of name (no offense intended).

Greg,

Is it specifically the single you're looking for or just a recording of Ewan MacColl singing the song? The only recording I have of this song (by MacColl himself) is on 'Antiquities', the retrospective album, which I strongly suspect is a re-recording. Bob Webb is heavily into old and deleted vinyl stuff at the moment, so I'll ask him if his contacts can come up with any info on the single.

Ah-Ha,
I realise the problem that you may be having Greg.
The 45 single (that I have anyway) is Decca 45-F.10787 (DRF22318) and it's 'Dirty Old Town' by Alan Lomax and the Ramblers featuring (in lower case) Peggy Seeger and Ewan MacColl (probably one of the few times that Peggy's name came first).
On the other side 45-F.10787 (DRF22317) it's 'Hard Case' by Alan Lomax and the Ramblers featuring Ewan MacColl.
There's no date on the single but I suspect it was probably released about the same time as Feldman and Co. published 'The Skiffle Album' songbook 'featuring skiffle and folk songs popularised be Alan Lomax and the Ramlers' which was 1957.
Are you likely to be here in the IOM for this year's traditional boat festival? I can do you a copy.
Regrds.
