BS: Procrastination

08 Mar 06 - 02:46 PM (#1688450)
Subject: BS: Procrastination
From: Donuel

I've been meaning to post this for 3 years.
Are certain forms of procrastination virtually pathological.

There are some simple 20 minute tasks that I have put off for years.
And they are tasks which are very remunerative regarding estate property.

What have you meant to do for more than a year that could be done tommorrow?

Get my songbook in order, though it'll take more than a day.

Oh, indeed! I have stuff to scan, closets to sort, magazines to read, people to write..... I am driven by deadlines and 'fun'...if it is demanding I cope, like the bills and going to the store for food, I am merely slow; if it is fun and easy, I am way ahead! And don't remind me of my lyrics sheets...I have 25 years of loose papers in a briefcase, mostly handwritten.

Things you ought to have done but haven't are a very helpful way of pinning down and exorcising free-floating anxiety. Akways a good idea to have a few of them stockpiled for when you need them.

Every year I produce a CD for friends and family. I used to call it my "Christmas CD". But here it is March and it isn't done yet. Last year it took 'til late January.

I call it my "yearly CD" now.

I got one thing done this winter that I've been promising myself to do for years- I've gone through my photos and thrown away the pictures that are repetitive, out of focus, non-recognizable, unflattering and who-cares. I threw away close to 10 pounds of them. I still have the negatives, should I change my mind. Ha! Fat chance.

Of course, the main reason I got it done is that I was moving and I didn't want to have to haul it around.

I've lots of things to do when I get A ROUND TUIT.

I had an uncharacteristic burst of something or other last weekend. Borrowed a shredder and put 8 years of unnecessary but confidential crap through it. Made 5 bags of hamster bedding but still didn't find the two pieces of paper I was looking for.

But having the shredder was so much fun that a) I might buy one of my own one day and b), I sorted and shredded far more than I would have done!

Has it made any extra room?

What do you think? : )

Procrastination has a bad rap. If there had been more procrastination, there never would have been World War I. If George W. Bush had waited on the inspectors, there never would have been an Iraq War. Many stupid things are carried out by people who refuse to wait and see.

Coyote - the same with me. I've changed the title of my Xmas letter to family and friends from "My Xmas Letter" to "The Captain's Limping Messenger" and finally to "My Yearly Letter". About October I start to think about starting the Xmas letter, and sometimes after New Year I start to write in earnest.

I finished a quilt a couple of months ago that I had started nine years previously.

I have some artwork in process filed away, for when I get the energy.

I have a couple of good books gathering dust - I started them and somehow i got distracted and have read dozens of others since.

then there are some unanswered emails to get to. I have been procrastinating on renovating my house for some time (like five years). The architect has finished the plans and is tapping his fingers.

and I turned to Mudcat now as a way of avoiding another task - til tomorrow!

and yes, I have been procrastinating on selling some excess furniture - now my daughter has offered to help.

well, I had to think about maybe pondering upon even opening the thread

As I said to a friend years ago "If I had a middle name, it would be Procrastination".

Toniht I had friends over for dinner & cleaned up - some stuff is hiding, some was tossed out & some stuff was just put in a box, other stuff in the nearest clear space away from the table. One of the things I moved was the box I used to put stuff in last time I had visitors for a meal!!

will I empty both boxes?

I'll have to think about it
