Harriet Tubman (abolitionist, ex-slave) died 3/10/1913 (born circa 1821) One night I dreamed I was in slav'ry. 'Bout eighteen fifty was the time. Sorrow was the only sign, Nothing aroung to ease me mind. Out of the night appeared a lady Leading a distant pilgrim band "Harriet Tubman," by Walter Robinson © 1978; Seeger, Carry It On; ALSO: She is said (per 2nd People's Songbook) to have used for the Underground Railroad the following: CHO: Wade in the water. Wade in the water, children. Wade in the water. God's gonna trouble the water. "Wade in the Water" ALSO: Come now and stand around my deathbed And I will sing some spirit songs I'm my way to my greater union Now my ninety-three years are gone.
