I found one recording with that title in my library - the Gram Parsons song recorded by the Byrds on Sweethearts of the Rodeo - the Gram Parsons song isn't it, and as far as I can tell, Harry Fox doesn't have a song with that title attributed to Flatt. Lester Flatt did record this song under the title I Won't Care (A Hundred Years from Now) |

They just say who sang it and don't bother mentioning 'them what's wrote the song'. It might be worthwhile checking that indeed L and S DID write it. I have to get for the night. Clyde Moody recorded the number in 1947 and finding his version prompted me to search further. I have now discovered that the duo of Bob Atcher and Bonnie Blue Eyes recorded a song called "I Won't Care (A Hundred Years From Now)" in June 1940, releasing it on Conqueror 9595. I believe this is the same number, but have not yet been able to find a recording. I'd also like to know what writing credits are indicated on the label. The Byrds, Travis Tritt, even Johnathan King, amongst others have had their own particular version. A stage version became popular in the 1930s, but perhaps the best known (without the "I Won't Care" addition) was by Carson Robinson in about 1943. The title is also popular with poets. However, the OP here was interested in the number associated with Flatt and Scruggs, which is quite a different song, and therein lies my own interest, too. |

Strange on both counts. Firstly, Silvio Hein and Edwin Milton Royle wrote a number together with George V. Hobart, called "A Hundred Years From Now," which geatured in the 1905 musical, "Moonshine." However, the title normally associated with the Country number is "(I Won't Care) A Hundred Years From Now," so the label on the F&S Columbia release might just be record company laziness. I'd love to see the sheet music for the musical number (sheets do exist) and also to hear the 1940 recording made by Bob Atcher and Bonnie Blue Eyes, or even just see a scan of their Conqueror 9595 release.
