It's a three-chorder, isn't it? Try C, F and G.

As I remember he played it on a twelve string which made it sound more complicated than it is. When you play the C chord pick the third string open then the next time at the second fret and alternate. Same thing with the G chord only on the fourth string. Difficult to explain. If I had a guitar I'd show you in a second.

Just don't sing it five times in front of a mirror!

In the early years donovan did a lot of alternate tuning so no knowing what he used on candy man :-)

Yeah, We're aware of that. However, most guitarists would be able to listen and take a good stab at the tuning he used. Regardless, the tabs are in the link I posted.

Donovan plays Candyman like everyone else withleft hand.

you put a five string C chord on, pick twice
you lower the third finger from the E to the A directly below it, pick twice
back to the C, pick twice
Bring in the little finger and play the F on the fourth string pick twice
F chord
G chord
C chord

The only difference from everyone else is that he flat picks it. nice flat pick style. Up and down - calls for a flexible wrist.
