OK, OK! I know th ethread title is a SONG of ice and fire but this in in BS because it ain't realy a song!

I am on Book 3 part 1 of the excelent series of books by George R R Martin with the above title. They are the most complex and involved series I have come across to date and the amount of detail Mr M has put in is really quite phenomenal. Then, just in a fit of nowt better to do, I looked up his web site here.

Well, thinks I, this man must be a folk singer as well:-) I decided there and then that he looks a nice guy but perhaps I am biased. Anybody know him? Anyone met him? Anyone else like his books?

Cheers

Dave the Gnome.

Good choice, Charlie - Hope you like 'em to be long and involved:-)

Don't read the spoilers on the web site!

Love the series, but it's taking him so long to finish them, that I gave up waiting.... When they're all out, I'll pick up the ones I don't have and read 'em all from the beginning.

I know what you mean, Clinton, but us English are more used to waiting and queing than you Canadians!:-) I have also read the first (Lord of the Silver Bow) in David Gemmels new trilogy based on Troy - Looks like I may have to wait till Sept 2007 before I finish the series!

I think the worst wait was for Stephen Kings Dark Tower series. Started in 1982 with the last book out in 2004 - And I still haven't read the last 3!

It's all about perception and taste I think. I didn't used to like him myself until I read the Stand and the kids one - something about a dragon? I started to see threads running through various books (Roland, Tick-tock man, Flagg etc.) I quite like his stuff now - although after having read the third of the Dark tower I could have easily given up!

If you don't like him at all though I suppose it is not worth perserving with. Wonder if some books are a bit like some food and drink? An acquired taste? Seeing as I like tripe and onions I guess it only follows that I could like some odd books as well. Although I don't think I will ever try oysters or Jeffrey Archer again:-)

Fire & Ice is that song about global warming, isn't it?

"Wonder if some books are a bit like some food and drink?"

Nothing appeals to everyone....
