Lyrics are available here: Maria Elena lyrics (amongst other places) There is a transcription from a Ry Cooder version here: Maria Elena (standard notation and tab for guitar). If you're interested, I've generated a couple of lead sheets (pdf) from midi files I've found on the net (just imported into Band in a Box - no cleaning up, but usable I think). My wife and I were having dinner in a local Mexican restaurant last night in Old Town. A single guitarist/singer stopped at the next table and, for his first selection, played --- "Maria Elena." I remember the Los Indios Tabajaros, allegedly two Jivaro Indians from Brazil, who made an instrumental recording of the song in the late 1950's or early '60's. It made the charts and hung around a while. |
