28 Mar 06 - 10:55 PM (#1705230) Subject: Tech: Problem Saving Audacity Recording to MP3 From: Maryrrf I've installed Audacity and recorded part of Tradsinger's Richmond concert. I transferred the recording from the minidisk to the computer and have saved it as a WAV,using Audacity. I know I have to download a LAME file in order to save it as an MP3, but somehow although I click on all the links given on the Audacity site nothing seems to download. Advice, anybody? Thanks, Mary |

I think it may have had to do with my firewall, but I haven't been back to try it again. I used Symantec Firewall and there were lots of things I just couldn't see or do. When it expired this year I switched to one that is provided by Earthlink. I can do more of those things now, but I also see tons of in-my-face ads (even though E'link blocks popups, their bread and butter comes through ads, so many get through). And Earthlink crashes lots of programs on a regular basis. I am still trying out a few things before I decide to stay with this one, and a test run using Audacity is going to be one thing I try. One thing though - you need the ability to read zip files. On WinXP, this is just a case of clicking on the file and unzipping it. On previous versions of Windows, you'll need to download a zip utility such as WinZip. Then put the resulting (unzipped) directory somewhere sensible, and in Audicity options, tell the program where to find it. You'll also want to set the MP3 settings too - I tend to save as 192 or 256 kbps, and on highest quality. Graham. |

I can't figure out what's wrong. Got to go to work now, but I will try some more when I get home. Thanks, all for the suggestions. |
