30 Mar 06 - 07:24 PM (#1707053) Subject: Best of Foremen CD due April 12 From: KenBrock The Foremen were a 1990's satirical folk group from California. Tom Lehrer commented favorably on their topical songs and they used the quote on their "FOLK HEROES" CD. Roy Zimmerman, who wrote most of their songs, has goen on to a solo career and Andy Corwin has joined The Limeliters. There will be a "best of" CD of their songs issued April 12, 2006; info at: www.royzimmerman.com |

(He considers "Crabs Walk Sideways" by the Smothers Brothers to be political.) Thanks. Russ |
31 Mar 06 - 01:16 PM (#1707656) Subject: RE: Best of Foremen CD due April 12 From: GUEST They have some funny songs that are more social satire than political satire, such as "Lazin' in the Shade of the Information Superhighway", and a version of "Michael, Row the Boat Ashore" where the first verse ("Michael...") and the second verse ("Jordan...") are joined in the third verse to be about Michael Jordan. |

15 Jul 06 - 01:09 AM (#1784019) Subject: RE: Best of Foremen CD due April 12 From: GUEST,Joan Yes, "The Best of the Foremen" was released in April, and in celebration of that, Roy Zimmerman (the group's founding member) has launched a new Foremen website, here: http://foremen.royzimmerman.com/ Roy has been working on the website for months, and it turned out great. It contains an amazing wealth of info on the band, lots of great pictures, a very thorough discography, and my favorite -- a bunch of free MP3s of Foremen rarities. (Scroll almost to the bottom of the Discography, here.) My favorite never-released Foremen song is there -- "Glory Bound Train." There's also a "Fore-um" where fans can post their stories, thoughts, pictures, or ask Roy questions. And Russ, as far as non-political Foremen songs, there probably aren't many that would meet your partner's criteria of "non-political," but I would recommend "Godzilla Has A Midlife Crisis." It's on the new "Best of the Foremen" CD! Joan |
