Could it be an obscure Shel Silverstein song called "June 25 at the Fourth of July"?

Spancil Hill?

"It was on the 23rd of June
The day before the fair"

A few days early, bit may have been mis heard.

The Clancys and Makem on an LP [1961] entitled Hearty and Hellish included a song entitled , The 23rd of June, playing it again it sounds almost like another version of The Jug of Punch.
Arranged and adapted by the Clancys and Makem.
