BS: Has Anyone heard from Capri Uni?

Subject: BS: Has Anyone heard from Capri Uni?
From: Alba

I woke up thinking about CU and her Father this morning and I was wondering if anyone knew if they were doing alright.
She hasn't been in~ (at least I don't think she has but I could be wrong!)~ since her Father was in Hospital and I just wanted her to know I was thinking of them Both.
If anyone has any news or an update I would be grateful.
Best Wishes and Thanks in advance
Jude

What a wonderful place the Mudcat is. This person may be going through a personal crisis or just taking a break but there are people here who are worried about her/him. Good on you.

Not worried, concerned. But, hesperis has sent her a flag, so I will reserve worried for another day or so. For now, I'll just chalk it up to taking a break... I hope.

Yes, I got Hesperis's flag... Has it really been since February 9? eep! I plead temporary 'calender amnesia.'

Dad's home from the hospital, now. He's still in his leg brace, but he's graduated from walker to cane.

He's finished his radiation treatments; chemo is continuing. The follow-up CAT scan to see if this chemo and radiation is actually working is yet to be done, however.

And so we're just basically in the waiting game.

Though I am seriously thinking of moving out of Virginia, in order to be physically closer to the other members of my family (there aren't many left). The problem is, I won't be able to be as independent in a "Standardized Wheel-chair accessible" house than I am in this one, which was custom built. And we don't have the resaurces, any longer, to start from scratch, again. So that means moving into some sort of assisted living place, or nursing home. Finding one that allows my cats to move with me is very important -- giving them up would be like asking me to give up any child.

(sigh).

Capri - any chance of talking some other member of the family into moving closer to YOU? Or for that matter - some "chosen family"?

Well at least you are back here!!! I was glad to see this posted because I had wondered about your Dad and all and then you kinda' disappeared and...........Why do we always expect the worst? Actually someone once said to always expect the worst because then the worst in reality is only half bad at best. I dunno' if that is half-bad, half-good, half-true, or possibly just-half assed.........anyway......

Do keep us posted. I don't know how we can be of help on your move or not problem short of giving our half-assed (see above) opinions, but we do care about you C-U.

It's an awfully big sacrifice to make to be nearer your family. It sounds like a big drop in your independence too, and that's important when so much else in your life is dependant on other people.
Think carefully before you do anything you might regret later.
As all have said, really nice to see you back on the Cat.

Hi Capri Uni,We haven't encountered each other before as I'm rather new around here.
It sounds to me as if a Center for Independent Living may be able to (at very least) advise you as to how best to ensure your requirements are met in respect of your living arrangements.
Your local CIL can be contacted at www.vasilc.org (If any kind 'catter would blueclicky that I'd be grateful)
Hope this doesn't seem intrusive & I hope things work out for you.

CapriUni, where are you in Virginia? I will be in Lynchburg for my daughter's graduation in May. If you are along the way, going or coming, I would love to stop by for a cup of tea and a face to face chat. Want a Mudcat visitor?

More thanks on the continued good wishes. I may wander away from the Cat, now and then, in a muddle-headed haze, but I've always come back, and you folkie folks are the reason!

On moving and independence:

Inside my house, I am independent, but as I don't drive, and the public transportation around here is limited (and there are no sidewalks between my house and any of the nearest bus stops), inside my house is just about the only place I'm independant. At this point, I'd gladly give up some of my mundane independence (such as when meals are served) for the chance to get on a bus and go to the library or museum.

Also, after living here ten years, I am thoroughly disenchanted with the politics and culture. I want to move some place where there's a chance that my elected representatives would actually represent my interests -- a factor I never even considered when I first chose this place to move to, but should have.

And besides, nothing is set in stone yet, I'm still in the "considering my options" phase; it's just that the sudden discovery of Dad's cancer has made it clear that a vague "someday," won't cut it, anymore. If I were queen of the universe, and had a magic wand, I'd just teleport this house to a new place (or get a TARDIS).

---
Naemanson -- whether I'm on the way, coming or going, depends on where you're coming from and going to; I'm in Chesapeake, nearish the NC border (it looks kinda like the "finger" of the DelMarVA penninsula is pointing at my neighborhood), and several hours away from Lynchburg. If you don't mind a house that is likely to be in some state of chaos, I'm sure I have some teabags around, somewhere... :-)

YO!! Good to hear from you.

Ah, unfortunately I am coming down from the north. It would be too much of a step to run from Lynchburg to Chesapeake and then back to New England. Mind you, I live in Guam so the whole trip is a big run anyway but that kid is graduating and I'd better be there to see it happen.

As far as a house in chaos goes, I live that way anyway so it wouldn't bother me a bit.

Best of luck on figuring out the future.

Naemanson --

Yeah. I would pummel you, myself, if you came down here and missed your daughter's graduation.

We'll save the tea for after my relocation. How do you feel about cocoa?

Cocoa is good. I especially like it mixed with coffee. Living in Guam though I rarely feel the need for hot drinks. Coffee in the morning and cold water and iced tea for the rest of the day.

So...if you had anywhere to choose, esp. depending on political atmospheres, etc. where would you like to go? The Northampton MA area has fantastic transportation, buses are always running and FREE during the college school year; five colleges in the area, etc. and the politics are definitely liberal, at least they were when we lived there and I don't think it has changed.

There are some independent living centers near Boston (see my posting to your blog) which would have a lot of what you might need and would allow your cats, from what Night Owl has found.

There's always Wisconsin which just voted on a referendum to get us out of Iraq.:-)

Alba -- thank you so much for the Love and Light; I appreciate, and I will pass your message on to Dad, and I'm sure he appreciates it, too.

Kat -- I will definitely look into Boston, then. 10 years ago, I would have sworn up and down that the winters would be too cold for me (it was the cold winters in New York that drove me south in the first place), but I've since come to the conclusion that social coldness is far more bitter than a fierce North Wind...

Thanks for all the good thoughts, guys.

By the way, when I'm not chatting or posting here, I'm posting mostly random thoughts and updates and silly things in my LiveJournal: My Enchanted Forest (for those who feel like they may be allergic to blogs, LiveJournal is more like a perennial, personal, BS thread than it is a soapbox).

That's where Hesperis found me, and let me know this thread was up.
