Movie: The Boys and Girl from County Clare

Anyone seen the movie? I haven't been on Mudcat for awhile so I don't know if anyone has started a thread on the movie. Forgive if I missed it. Anyway, I really enjoyed the film. Not a great story, but some very good Irish music. It stars Colm Meaney, Bernard Hill, and Adrea Corr. I don't believe I have ever seen a film with Colm Meaney that I didn't enjoy.

Gee whiz! I've started some unresponsive threads in my time, but none that drew as few responses as this one. Whassamatta, not policical enough for you folks? :>)

On the other hand I may be the only Mudcat who has seen the movie I guess.

Clinton Hammond had a thread about it some weeks ago.

I haven't seen it yet, but it's on my list. I agree, Colm Meaney is always worth watching, and Andrea Corr (from the Irish pop group) is eye candy.

Cheers,
Michael

It's decent enough, with some good tunes. Entertaining take on "purists" vs. "innovators" in sessions. The main plot is mediocre at best, acting/directing fairly good if largely understated (perhaps appropriately). Andrea Corr on fiddle (not whistle or vocals as on stage with the family) is believable if not spectacular.

'Celi wars' in Toronto

Was one and there was another that I posted to but can't find.

But threads on this subject may get a better response without the BS prefix?

Hey Doug,
I rented the movie about 4 months ago and laughed my bollocks off.
I used to play in an Irish band in Manchester back in the 1960's and Colm Meany was f**kin magic in the movie (as he always is!)

The filim has finally made it to cable here in the US, and I saw it for the first time last night. Very enjoyable, with some laugh-out-loud moments.

What bothers me is that Andrea Corr doesn't move her fingers when pretending to play the fiddle! Sure she's a whistle player, but couldn't she have gotten some coaching from her sister?

Just caught this by accident when it was broadcast in UK on 11 May. Some good musicians hidden away in the ceilidh bands. Good fun.
