12 Apr 06 - 11:14 AM (#1716164) Subject: RE: 'The Bash' , Cottingham, Open Mic From: Rasener Don't seem right to have a minority smoking allowance. I would have thought it would have been non smoking, seen as the vast majority don't smoke. |
12 Apr 06 - 11:31 AM (#1716180) Subject: RE: 'The Bash' , Cottingham, Open Mic From: Rasener Incidentally Captain Swing, I hope you use Graham Moore's song that he wrote called "Captain Swing" as your opening number. Graham Moore If you go to that website and then click on download link, you will be able click on the drop down icon and select Captain swing and listen to it. |
12 Apr 06 - 03:42 PM (#1716460) Subject: RE: 'The Bash' , Cottingham, Open Mic From: GUEST,Captain Swing Thanks for that, Villan. Sounds like a good song. In my previous folk incarnation I would have snapped it up but I'm changing style a little at the moment. On the smoking issue - there are so few smokers that it isn't a problem and the law will sort it out fairly soon anyway ...... saves having a witch hunt. |
12 Apr 06 - 03:53 PM (#1716471) Subject: RE: 'The Bash' , Cottingham, Open Mic From: Rasener Don't geta witch hunt at my club. banned smoking 2 years ago. Never regretted it :-) |
12 Apr 06 - 03:57 PM (#1716478) Subject: RE: 'The Bash' , Cottingham, Open Mic From: GUEST,Captain Swing There's a difference between an open mic and a folk club though |
12 Apr 06 - 04:05 PM (#1716488) Subject: RE: 'The Bash' , Cottingham, Open Mic From: Rasener Not when it comes to the majority of the people having to put up with passive smoking from the minority! |
12 Apr 06 - 04:17 PM (#1716502) Subject: RE: 'The Bash' , Cottingham, Open Mic From: GUEST We are by nature not a club. We play in a room in a pub which we hope will attract passing trade as would a normal pub gig. We don't charge on the door, there is no gatekeeper. From this point of view it seems to me that to ban smoking or not would be a decision for the pub management as the room is open to anyone who wants to come in. |
12 Apr 06 - 04:25 PM (#1716505) Subject: RE: 'The Bash' , Cottingham, Open Mic From: Rasener OK I will come along and enjoy the music when its smoke free. Having had cancer caused by smoking. |

16 Apr 06 - 12:27 PM (#1719515) Subject: RE: 'The Bash' , Cottingham, Open Mic From: Northerner I've just returned from Edinburgh where the Scottish laws on smoking are in force. Now there are sad little huddles of people on the streets outside the pubs, all smoking away furiously. Personally I think these laws are a good thing. I had to give up folk singing for a very long time when the cigarette smoke hurt my eyes too much. I'm a lifetime non-smoker. |
