Can anybody recommend somewhere to eat on Thursday evening 27th April
My family and I have rented a house up on West Cliff area and would prefer somewhere close by so I don't have to drive, then I can have a drink or two :-)

We have 2 daughters aged 10 and 14, so do not want a stuffy type of we don't like families place and preferably somewhere that doesn't allow smoking.
We are not into McDonalds type crap and do not want a fish and chip type place.
Is there an Italian close by that does something more than just Pizzas?

Indian restaurants are out as one daughter doesn't like Indian.

Be pleased to hear of any suggestions.

The Friendship Armature Rowing Club is on the East Side on Church Street.
Walk past the Market place down the Cobbled Street it's the next passageway on past Arguments Yard. OH YES IT IS! However it has an entrance on Church Street the Bar overlooking the harbour is the entrance down the passage.

Garrigas is indeed no more. Site is under refurbishment with papered-over windows, but new signage indicates a bar/bistro. We'll see how it turns out. Further along we are supposed to have a new Indian eatery, but they are apparently having trouble recruiting a chef, so that one is also a "wait and see" at present.

Hi Folks,

Can anyone advise me where unofficial sessions happen at Moor and Coast as I've not been before, but have stewarded at Whitby Folk Weeks in August.

I enjoy George Garside's organised ones but am playing for Morris sides in Goathland or elsewhere when his are on so can't get to them.

Will be there from Friday pm to Monday so any suggestions as to likely venues, particularly evening ones would be useful.

Flaj.

Black Horse and Endeavour are two likely venues for "fringe" singing

For the slightly bewildered:
whereas the Tap n Spile and Endeavour are important fringe venues for Folk Week they are featured venues for Moor and Coast weekend. Other pubs (such as Black Horse) may welcome singing and playing if you ask nicely.

Whitby Community College is one of the main venues, although friends (if he had any!) of a certain Old Git may congregate in the Endeavour.

26 Apr 06 - 04:09 PM (#1728186)
Subject: RE: Moor & Coast Festival - Whitby
From: Rasener

Les
Is the Endevour, the pub next to the Italian restaurant?

If it is, how can it be the main venue with all the noise at the bar, and being stuck in the one little corner. I came to listen to somebody two years ago there and the noise was terrible, and bloody hard going for the performers.

Have I got the right place :-)

26 Apr 06 - 05:04 PM (#1728243)
Subject: RE: Moor & Coast Festival - Whitby
From: old git

I was of course being facetious (but only a little bit)
I shall of course be running the folk sessions (floor singers and featured guests) on sat and sun afternoons. Yes Villan the noise at times does make it difficult if you can't get into the enclave. Glen assures me that this year the booths have been removed and the pool table moved to where they used to be so there should be a lot more room and seats in the end section. It is of course a public bar and so some noise is inevitable. But it is a chance to listen to festival guests for free!!
see you there friends!!!

Is it non smoking in the Endeavor, or do the performers and non smokers have to suffer the passive smoking syndrome?
I am Ok cuase I got me ticket, so don't really need the freebie bit. :-)
Ah well, as I am up, might as well get some of the packing in the car, so we can get up there for lunchtime and savour the flavour before it gets going. I am getting to old to keep carying the missus to the car, she will have to walk to it next year :-)

Hope to bump into some of you whilst up there, and keep up the good and hard work, that I know you all put in to make the event such a success.

Now where is the bag to pack me missus in!!!

I'll get me coat :-)

'fraid passive smoking is still the order in the Endeavour, but it is usually better-ventilated than most such. I can confirm removal of the booths has improved the room's usability.

Sorry Old Git (how many customer letters have I longed to open with that line?) I shan't make your Saturday episode as I'm doing the one at the Tap. Hope to see you during the w/end & maybe catch some of Sunday's spasm.

Yes - great festival as ever and a lovely atmosphere all round, (and George was on top form in spite of the jet-lag). Shame the Endeavour won't let kids in though. I'd been planning to try out some new songs but couldn't with my lad in tow, and I couldn't join Napper in the Angel for the same reason. Would be good if there was more happening in pubs that are child-friendly... Still, we'll be back next year, big time and four-strong (thanks for the promise, C+G). Tom

Managed to corrupt half of Ember into joining us in the showers, had very little sleep, had a very good time in the Endeavour (one day Geoff will remember my name and I won't be "Julie's daughter!") didn't quite make it to the Tap though and the concerts I did get to, I thoroughly enjoyed!
