09 Feb 99 - 04:21 AM (#57776) Subject: Mudcatters UK From: The_one_and_only_Dai I've been reading the Mudcat Festival thread, and as usual the colonials have (largely) forgotten their origins. We travel over there??? Surely they should come to us! Fresh Horses, Chiswick! Cry God for Harry etc. etc. The Shambles posted a message to that thread suggesting that _we_ agreed on a venue and secret handshake for a UK mudcatters get together. So, (a) What do you chap(esse)s think about this? (b) Any suggestions? For starters, my local festival (Stony Live!) happens in June and is a cracker. Have a look at this . Good eh. As regards the handshake, I favour the Dundee reverse double knuckle-rattle. |

09 Feb 99 - 08:10 AM (#57797) Subject: RE: Mudcatters UK From: Sean MacRuairaidh Looks interesting. I will think about going and if I decide to I will post to this thread nearer the time. June is too far for me to contemplate. My worry would be accommodation nearby at this time. What would be the Journey time from Central Birmingham on train ? Do you know about Celtic Connections which takes place in Glasgow every January. This is the biggest Winter Music festical in Europe. It last about 3 weeks and features mainly Celtic music - Capercaille, Shooglenifty, Dougie MaClean, Wolfstone, Iron Horse are examples of the big names. The smaller names iclude the Bumblebees, Cherish the Ladies etc. There are workshops thoroughout. Some world music is also included e.g. Salsa Celtica, Booga Looga (Louisiana/Cajun) What about meeting in Cambridge,Dublin or Galway ? Have you ever been to a folk festival on the West Coast of Ireland - thats something to be experienced ... Sean

09 Feb 99 - 10:54 AM (#57816) Subject: RE: Mudcatters UK From: The_one_and_only_Dai Sean - friends of mine have been to Galway, and come back as gibbering wrecks. As regards accommodation, you can find extensive info about Stony here . It used to be a coaching town on Watling Street, and has more than its fair share of stuff... Will - do you really expect your countrymen to pay attention to a thread called 'Mudcatters UK'? |

10 Feb 99 - 04:00 AM (#57947) Subject: RE: Mudcatters UK From: The_one_and_only_Dai What about the completely obvious Cropredy? I think we're a bit spoilt for choice, really. We obviously need a different approach. How about aiming at a complete listing of UK festivals, dates, etc., does anybody know if there is one somewhere? Then all we need to do is to propose some means by which Mudcatters can recognise each other, as I personally haven't been sad enough to buy one of the T-shirts. |

25 May 99 - 05:03 PM (#81671) Subject: RE: Mudcatters UK From: Richard Bridge Well by now you missed ROchester Sweeps fest (Kent). My local club is Hazlitt Folk, The Style and Winch, Union Street Maidstone, Kent (mondays) and the club I don't got to (old joke) is Gravesend, the Kent and Essex, Old Road, Gravesend (first Thursdays) and I recommend the Eagle, ROchester, last Tuessdays and the Hardcore Troubador, the Dusk to Dawn, High Street, ROchester, every Weds. I might be at Ely this year and/or Sidmouth.
