However, when you're of a mind to, please join and message me. I would love to hear what you do with that piece. I just posted a link to the song on another thread. Man, what a great piece of writing. The song is just made for harmonies--beautiful message and good 'feel' to it. You have excellent taste in music if that's representative of what ya like. Thanks again for posting this thread. |

14 Apr 06 - 05:37 PM (#1718339) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Ours is a Simple Faith: Mustrd's Retr From: DonMeixner Hi Bruce, The link has Simple Faith as written by David Tanulevich. 'm sure it could be a typo based on wrong info. I have Mustard's CDs over to the shop so I'll check for sure when I get to work tonight. I've enjoyed the song for some time, I just never looked for the author. It sounds so much like lots of Dave T's work I assumed it was his. Mustard's Retreat is one of my favorite duo's. We have become craft festival friends after ten years of being at the same festival. They with the music, me with the silver jewelery. I think they are un appreciated gems out there and more people should hear them perform. They have a streamed performance at The Woodsongs Old-Time Radio Hour site. Probably as good as any introduction you'll find. Don |

16 Apr 06 - 10:51 PM (#1719887) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Ours is a Simple Faith: Mustrd's Retreat From: Jim Dixon Apparently the song (OURS IS A) SIMPLE FAITH is on Mustard's Retreat's 2005 album MR7. Mustard's Retreat's official web site doesn't mention the song, but they do provide a link to a review that mentions it. The review doesn't say who wrote it. (David Wilcox's official web site doesn't mention it either.) I'm inclined to think David Tamulevich is the songwriter and not David Wilcox, but I'd feel better if we had the information from the horse's mouth or from a reliable source such as Allmusic.com. Also, Mustard's Retreat is a duo (Michael Hough and David Tamulevich) but I hear the voices of 2 men and a woman in the recording. Neither the web site nor the review mentions a woman. |
16 Apr 06 - 11:04 PM (#1719893) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Ours is a Simple Faith: Mustrd's Retreat From: Peace I think Jim is correct. My apologies to y'all, and especially to David Tamulevich. Thanks for getting and setting it straight, Jim. To ensure accuracy on this, I have e-mailed David asking about authorship of the song. I'll post back when he responds. |
17 Apr 06 - 12:24 AM (#1719943) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Ours is a Simple Faith: Mustrd's Retr From: GUEST,Don Meixner Sorry, Been busy with Taxes and Family so I haven't been to the shop. I'll try nd check the cd tomorrow to confirm the authorship of this fine tune. Once again let tell you all what exceptional writers and performers are Mustard's Retreat. I have enjoyed there music and congenial aquaintence at craft fairs for years. They are the reason my silver smithing both is set up close to the stage in Norwich, NY. Both are fine writers and musicians and they are perfect harmonic foils for each others lead voice. I suggest "Back to Back" is the perfect intro to Mustard's Retreat. "Resolution of..." is also a great way to meet them. They can be seen in performance on Millenium Stage and The Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour. Check them out. Don |

Thanks to Don for alerting me to this site/discussion!! Yes- I did write Simple Faith...Nov. 04, after the last "selection"..trying to articulte some kind of common ground amid all the devicevness . I am glad that you all enjoy the song so much. FYI- SingOUt! will be publishing it in their Summer issue this year. Glad to answer any questions you might have. |
17 Apr 06 - 09:48 AM (#1720156) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Ours is a Simple Faith: Mustrd's Retreat From: Peace Hello, David. I rec'd your e-mail, but you have posted the answer here. Thank you very much. First my apologies for thinking it was David Wilcox and not David Tamulevich who wrote this beautiful and very moving song. I took a stab at the chords in a post above. If I've made mistakes (been doin' lots of that lately), would you be kind enough to correct them? My question about the song is this: How did it come about? |
28 Apr 06 - 08:35 PM (#1729596) Subject: Lyr/Chords Add: A SIMPLE FAITH (David Tamulevich) From: GUEST,David Tamulevich Thanks..for thinking it was a David Wilcox song- that is a complement!! As to how it came about...it was brewing for a long time..then after the last "election"- I was looking for common ground...there was so much division and lying and spin...I wanted to say " People, use your common sense".. listen to your heart...these people are snake oil salesmen...and women...... the last verse..the " live in the mystery" line came from the movie " What the Bleep Do We Know"..I heard that line and thought..." I've got the key to my last verse"...... Here is what I have been sending people..... ( Ours Is) A Simple Faith ( words & music by David Tamulevich, Mustard's Retreat Music, BMI, copyright 2004) G C G D Em Ours is a simple faith. Life is a short embrace. C D G D Heaven is in this place, everyday. G C G D Em Hope is the ground we till. Make each day what you will. C D G Thankful for dreams fulfilled, everyday. (Ours is a) SIMPLE FAITH (David Tamulevich) CHORUS: Ours is a simple faith. Life is a short embrace, Heaven is in this place, everyday. Hope is the ground we till. Make each day what you will. Thankful for dreams fulfilled, everyday. There is no Hell to fear. No judgment day drawing near. Trust that inner voice you hear, everyday. Life's not a goal or race. It's about heart and faith, And living a life of grace. Everyday. Trust is an open hand, making an honest stand. Rooted here, in the land…everyday. Live in the mystery, seeking the harmony Here, between you and me…everyday. |

(I think there's some Chuck Berry and a mixed metaphor in that sentence, but I mean it anyway.) The stark simplicity of the words and wonderful truths you unfold with that song speak so clearly to the heart and soul. I have a few 'favourite songs'. Yours is for sure one of 'em. |

29 Apr 06 - 10:09 AM (#1729909) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Simple Faith (David Tamulevich) From: GUEST,Nancy Bailey "A Simple Faith" has taken central Ohio by storm, ever since first hearing it at a benefit concert in Columbus where Mustard's Retreat generously shared in the evening. Everyone there was awe-struck by the song and there are little pockets of musicians all over the area working on learning it! Mustard's Retreat will again appear at The Central Ohio Folk Festival (May 5, 6, 7)and we are all anticipating hearing this beautiful work again. It is great to hear all the kudos for David in this thread. |

13 Oct 10 - 03:47 PM (#3006286) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Simple Faith (David Tamulevich) From: frogprince We're fortunate enough to live relatively close to the duo, and hear them with some regularity. So we get to hear this "from the horse's mouth", as well as sing it at other times in local circles. Add me to the list of those for whom this song resonates right down to the core. I think it's a "spiritual" song in the best possible sense. Dean |
16 Sep 11 - 03:38 PM (#3224362) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Simple Faith (David Tamulevich) From: Mysha Hi, I notice the first line has changed to "No room in this heart for fear". I wonder whether the mention of H*ll was too confrontational. Still, "No Judgement Day drawing near" does remain in the text, so it's not like the change makes it acceptable to Christian doctrine. Maybe there was a different reason. Bye, Mysha |
11 May 13 - 11:19 PM (#3514074) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Simple Faith (David Tamulevich) From: GUEST,David Tamulevich I was always a bit uncomfortable with the line " There is no Hell to fear" not because I don't believe it, but because some people would fixate on it....and miss the point of the song...which is to open doors and find common ground. David Barrett, who is a member of the songwriting group I am in, The Yellow Room Gang, suggested the " No room in this heart for fear." I like it a lot, as it takes the Christian imagery out of the song...though yes, I still do have the " No judgement day" line...but I think that can be more broadly interpreted |
