BS: Survivors: Songs OK too

I am amazed to find that there are survivors of the 1906 earthquake in San Francisco - any survivors of Dublin, easter 1916? Not of the actual uprisers, who were all killed I believe (executed, if you prefer), but eyewitnesses of the events?

Any songs about surviving either?

Of a couple of thousand or so rebels, about 60 were killed in the fighting, and a further 16 executed. But given that they would be in their late teens at least, they would have to be well over a hundred today.

I've been interested in the centennial of the San Francisco earthquake, too. My dad's cousin was just a baby when her parents were killed in the earthquake. She was ten eleven years older than my dad and was raised by their maternal grandmother and grandfather, until she bobbed her hair as a young woman. They were so upset, they evicted her; she went to my dad's parents and lived with him and them until she was married. I have a beautiful, antique desk she gave me when I was thirteen. I wish I'd known more when she was still alive. I would have asked more questions and had a tape recorder.

My grandfather always claimed he lost all his personal papers as a young man, in the San Farancisco earthquake, while he was out at sea. We figured he devised the loss as a plausible ruse, so as not to be questioned regarding his past and to hide his British place of birth in order to collect a pension in Canada. As my grandfather died in the 1960's after a very long life, I'm surprised too that there are still survivors of the earthquake.

Looks like 99-104 years old: click. Young enough to still pitch a baseball!

Right, and since 1916 is 10 years later than 1906, if there are survivors of the earthquake you'd think there'd be eyewitnesses left from the taking over of the GPO... no? No very old Irish people?
