It's a good little car that gets about 25 to 30 miles per gallon depending on driving conditions. We use it as little as possible. Our other vehicle is a dodge cargo van that we needed for hauling our trailer, but we're going to be selling the van in the not too distant future. But I love the Subarus. We used to have a Forrester until it got killed by a flying deer. I wish Subaru would produce a hybrid version of the Forrester. |

Bought it used and got them to reupholster it in leather, as a condition of the sale. Myself and the animals are too hard on cloth and we usually keep a car for at least 20 years. We seriously considered a Smartcar, but I couldn't figure out how to get the dogs, hay or building materials into it or how it would manage up here in the hills when it snowed. The Smartcar is also a Mercedes subsidiary and the Mercs have a hideous reliability record. My husband has an '86 Toyota Supra with a gazillion miles on it. Good car, but its useless when it snows and it does guzzle even more gas than the Sub. We've got to be able to get in and out with at least one car in the winter, because both are used for business purposes as well. He's still finding himself hard pressed to come up with an alternative he likes, so he continues to keep the old bugger running. He's over 6' and went to try out a Toyota Yaris recently, but couldn't get the seat far enough back to accommodate the length of his legs. You'd think after all these years, the Japanese would be a little more accommodating of the North American market on all their car models. |

There's enough room in the back to put several kids(only one was mine) and the dog as well, or just the shopping. I even slept in the back of the first one - there's about 5 foot 6 inches to stretch out in (and I'm 5'2"). It's not fast but the size suits me and it's very economical. Robyn |

The best little car I've ever had- it had the normal four gears plus reverse and then four more in a lower set up. I used to say that little car would climb a wall. The worst mileage I ever got from it was 34 mpg - loaded with luggage and four people going over Willamette Pass in Oregon - in normal driving I got 42. It was a Plymouth Champ hatchback, now discontinued. Of course. I have a friend who has a small Suburu station wagon and he says he gets 52 mpg. |

I have never owned a new car....closest was a 1975 VW Rabbit when there was a modicum of insurance money to whoop off....and THAT was no picnic! It was one problem after another..(chief being that the wiring was not protected under the car...drive thru a puddle and it would short out) It also had an early type catalytic converter that crumbled into dust and plugged the exhaust. |

A 1989 5 litre 370BHP Porsche 928S4, silver, with burgundy leather cabin, topping out at 175mph, capable of less than 7 miles a gallon, but on cruise inside legal limits, the right side of 24mpg. Wanted one ever since Tom Cruise oozed 'Porsche, there is no substitute!' in Risky Business. So why am I selling her? It's a major gas-hog, but a heavy-duty van is essential for my business. I ordinarilly use it for business only, but our other car died a few months back and I haven't yet made enough money this year to replace it. I hope to pick up something economical within the next few weeks. We don't do too much personal driving, but we do live 50 miles from the nearest city and average a couple of trips in per week. A decent second-hand economy car with around 30 MPG would pay for itself in fuel savings in about a year. |

I had a Geo Metro for the longest time but after a few trips walking up the mountain during a snow storm because I couldn't get home and after the death of a co-worker driving the same kind of car in a minor accident (something that should NOT have resulted in death if the car had provided ANY kind of protection), I now have the 4x4 beast. It IS a gas hog but the safety issue on bad roads is worth it to me....besides, I am eyeing a scooter for nice weather use...they top out at 65 miles per hour and 90 miles to the gallon.....WOOOO HOOOO...I wave to my scooter (got it all picked out) every time I drive by the dealer. One, the guzzler supreme, is a 10 cylinder Ford Excursion. 12.6/gal no matter what you do. So I bought a Ford Freestyle to get better milage and, though advertised as 28-30mpg, it gets no better than 18mpg. I'm disappointed in the milage but it's the best car ever on ice and snow. Bob |
