Song circle in Portland ME 29 April 2006

As Mary and I were at NEFFA this weekend and she's going to a wedding next weekend we have persuaded friends, Deborah and Tom Coward, to hold a song circle at her place on the 29th.

The venue is on the border of South Portland and Cape Elizabeth. Usual thing, pot luck supper but please bring your own liquid libation. I'll post the starting time once I have confirmation from Deborah. There is some accomodation at Deb and Tom's and Mary says that her house can be used for crashing, if required.

My wife and I will be travelling through that area on April 29th. We leave Cape Breton on the 28th travelling to Virginia. If the weather is fine and warm we plan to go to Oxford Plains that night to a stockcar race. If not we will perhaps be in the Portland area. It would be nice to stop by for a few minutes to meet you all, but there are many if's. I'll keep an eye on this thread in any case.
                Best regards,
                         Sandy

Tom and I will not be able to attend -- we're in the Portsmouth Folk Festival at The Music Hall and it looks like a full day and night of partying with a reception at Celtic Crossing in the afternoon, another at The Music Hall, and then Cuzin Richard is throwing a post-festival bash.

Spotlight Cover Story

The first part of the show is more contemporary folk and singer/songwriters such as Bill Morrissey, Dan Blakeslee, Deirdre Randall, Craig Werth and Jon Nolan but the second part is more traditional with High Range Bluegrass, us -- The Press Room Gang, and Tommy Makem.

Should be a good evening, but I'm really sorry we can't be in two places at the same time -- I hope Deborah will have a song circle sometime when we CAN come!

WE have confirmation of a 6.00pm start for the song circle.

Sandy - if you want directions please PM me and I'll send you details. It is always a pleasure to meet new faces and you and your wife would be welcome to attend.

I'm afraid we won't be able to make this one - I'll quite likely be working that day, and I have a suspicion that Charley won't have anything remotely resembling a voice at that point - which could be a problem as Roll & Go is supposed to be performing on Monday the 1st. Guess we'll have to see what happens.

Thanks for doing this, Deb and Tom, and another time we'd love to come!

All the best,
JudyB (& Charley Noble, somewhere in the wilds of Long Island)

Thanks jacqui!
It looks for now that we won't be able to make it. If we do not go to Oxford we will probably push farther down the 95. It would be a lot of fun though to meet some of you folks and maybe share a song or two. Perhaps another time we will do that.
    All the best!

Kendall's not too well at the moment and a lot of the usual suspects will be absent so Deb has decided that we will put this one off.

She will be having a song circle a little later in the year - watch this space!

I may be in pursuit of a lost cause on such a picture-perfect Saturday in Spring afternoon I would be interested in going if someone would PM me about directions.

Well, if I had bothered to read this thread better, I would have seen that the Song Circle was cancelled. See you folks next month!

So, when is the May song circle? Can I come to it?

There is a house concert with Ed Trickett on the 4th May and I think that Mary is planning a song circle on 27th May, when we will be in the UK.

Are you coming to Maine Brett? If so, when will this momentous occasion arise? Enquiring minds wish to know........

I will be on the east coast from May 9 to June 1. I have to be at my daughter's graduation on May 14 so I expect to be in Virginia until May 15. Then I will be going home to spend some time with my parents. I hope to travel down through New England to visit with friends sometime during the month. I'd guess I need to be in Portland for the 27th. Mary, got a bed for me?

Back from NYC. Brett, Linn's Tune It Or Die party is that weekend so no Song Circle. But there is always a bed if you need one. Need a ride to Linn's?

Currently working on shovelling out the house, spiffifying and de-cobwebbing, finding chairs, beating the exterior into at least minimal submission, etcet etcet in anticipation of our revival of our used to be annual Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend "Tune It Or Die" Music Party and Ladyslipper Festival which has been on hiatus for five years.

It was quite an international event (that's when we first met CET -- Charmion and Edmund Thomas) on the day after a China Seas sea music singaround in Portland five years ago.

Prolly should start a thread on it at some point in the next coupla weeks.
