I haven't a clue what it is all about, as I have not ventured into the 'Mother' because it's like trying to lift a cast iron anvil to open it up. sIx |

01 May 06 - 10:49 PM (#1731722) Subject: RE: BS: The Baby of BS Threads From: CarolC The MOAB started out as a spinoff from the longest lasting birthday thread in the history of the Mudcat. But mostly all they talk about is polkas and championship ballroom dancing. And bowling. Lots of bowling talk in that thread. And they also talk a lot about khandu's dance costumes and Bee-dubya-ell's accordion playing. Bee-dubya-ell's a fine accordionist, and he looks stunning in his purple cape. |

I actually did lift the lid off of that thread (goddamned heavy) and went inside to take a look .... your right, it is rather 'unexciting'. Didn't see Bee-dubya in the cape, but I'll guess I never will since I'll certainly stay outta that thread. sIx |

01 May 06 - 11:37 PM (#1731761) Subject: RE: BS: The Baby of BS Threads From: CarolC What do you mean, 'unexciting'? What's wrong with the stuff I mentioned? If you saw Bee-dubya-ell playing his accordion while wearing his purple cape, I think you would find it very exciting. I know I do. Here's a picture of khandu doing his award winning championship ballroom dancing routine. What could be more exciting than this? http://www.geocities.com/squeezemusette/khandu.html |

02 May 06 - 11:26 AM (#1732115) Subject: RE: BS: The Baby of BS Threads From: Bill D http://www.anvilfire.com/FAQs/anvil-0.htm "Today most good quality anvils are made of cast steel the type dependent on the manufacturer. There are also a large number of cast iron "shop anvils" sold. Cast iron anvils are worthless for forging as they are dead (no rebound) and very brittle." http://www.beautifuliron.com/gs_anvils.htm "Why not cast iron? Cast iron anvils inherently contain layers or platelets of graphite throughout their mass. The graphite layers in cast iron anvils absorb concussion (hammer blows in our case) and cushion the work. In cast iron anvil this results in a softer work surface that absorbs force of hammer blows- making us work much harder to produce less product over the same time period compared with using a steel or wrought iron and steel anvil. Avoid cast iron anvils. Buy steel anvils." |

02 May 06 - 11:33 AM (#1732129) Subject: RE: BS: The Baby of BS Threads From: number 6 Great advice here in this thread .... I now know what the MOAB is all about ... and I now know what a good anvil is constructed of ... I wish I had known this info earlier as I would have acquired a better anvil than the one I bought at Walmart, and I wouldn't have gotten a hernia struggling to get down into the MOAB. thanks all, sIx |

02 May 06 - 01:25 PM (#1732215) Subject: RE: BS: The Baby of BS Threads From: Bunnahabhain I just though cast iron when hit hard has a tendancy to splinter when hit hard, which is why bomb cases are made of it. I've seen some very silly things done with it, such as making improptu firework mortar tubes out of it, or using a (cast iron) fencing mell with (steel) splitting wedges. It's amazing how loudly you can shout at people to stop what they're doing, from behind a solid object. |
