The report below is from BBC TV today.

"Bob Dylan makes disc jockey debut

Music legend Bob Dylan is embarking on a new career, by becoming a regular DJ on US satellite radio service XM.

The 65-year-old singer presents Theme Time Radio Hour, an hour-long mix of songs based around a central theme.

The first show features songs inspired by the weather and performed by Jimi Hendrix, Judy Garland and Muddy Watters.

According to Lee Abrams, chief creative officer at XM, Dylan has 'complete creative freedom, both musically and in terms of what he says' ".

Should be interesting.

He certainly has earned the right to do anything he wants. Hope it is true. Would love to listen in. Do you think we could understand him?

Direct t.v. has added XM audio channels to it's services.
i wonder what channel it is on?
maybe he is just jealous of Howard Stern

Dylan is a great prose intellectual (as well as songwriter). I'd love to hear him in this speaking role.

Can we access it in the UK?

XM is not available in the UK as it is a satellite service here in the states.   They do offer online programming by subscription - www.xmradio.com, but I am not sure if they are able to sell the service outside of the U.S.

I have XM but I did not have a chance to listen yet. Some early reports from those that heard it is that Dylan is very articulate and knowledgable, and the playlist is eclectic as Big Tim mentioned above. The initial response is that this show is better than expected. I wonder how long Dylan will keep doing it.

This is pretty amazing for a fellow who has so little to say to his audience when preforming.

Sounds like great fun for Bob to me. I hope he enjoys the experience and helps keep the old music alive for a lot of people.

Anyone catch Dylan's Halloween-themed "Theme Time Radio Hour"? Great music and great links/linking sound clips from BD. Still available to hear on the BBC iPlayer at
