17 Feb 99 - 03:27 AM (#58927) Subject: RE: Lyrics West of the Wall From: Steve Parkes I've been haunted by a song from very early in the 60s. I heard it on the radio (the BBC Light Programme as it was - popular music and such) once only, but it had a chorus which started "West of the wall" - or that's what it sounded like. It was sung by a woman and had a very cheerfull bouncy tune, a bit country-ish. I've never found anyone who's heard of it yet. Steve |
21 Feb 99 - 06:43 PM (#59496) Subject: RE: Lyrics West of the Wall From: John in Brisbane Steve, I've been away for a week and surprised that you have not received the lyrics to what I thought was a well known sing. It was relaesed about the time of the Berlin crisis. I have the lyrics but it will take me 48 hours to access them.
West of the wall I'll wait for you,
Regards |
22 Feb 99 - 02:36 AM (#59542) Subject: RE: Lyrics West of the Wall From: Joe Offer I sure hope you can find the lyrics, John. I lived in Berlin for a couple of years, 1972-73, when there was a wall there. I vaguely recall the song - I think it was from the 1960's - and I've often wished I had paid more attention to the lyrics. I looked for the song in my fakebooks, but couldn't find it. -Joe Offer- |
22 Feb 99 - 05:49 AM (#59554) Subject: RE: Lyrics West of the Wall From: Helen Well I've done some internet searching and found out that it was sung by Toni Fisher in 1962. I can't find the lyrics on the net but someone may have a copy of a recording. I remember the song, and I liked the singer's strong voice. I haven't heard it played on the radio etc for at least a couple of decades. helen |

WEST OF THE WALL
Wall built upon sorrow, one day you will end; Hearts true to each other will not break, they will not bend. In our hour of sadness, how clearly we can see, Tomorrow's gladness - free, free, free, free. West of the Wall, where hearts are free, West of the Wall, your heart can come to me, And in my arms that hold you tight, You will forget the darkness of the night. The world knows of our sadness, And we are not alone, West of the Wall, that soon will fall, And you'll come home. West of the Wall Words and Music by Wayne Shanklin
